Donkey Kong Restore, with pics!

Proper side art placement for the challenged people.;)

By the way I have another cp with NOS overlay also.

Yep. Looks same as mine (see my pic)...about a quarter inch (maybe 1/8th) lower than center...thanks for the confirm!

Did you clean the paint off of the CP positioning plate before you put it back together? Looks like you didn't remove it before painting. If you didn't, pull that CP off, remove the 4 screws that hold it on and get out the paint stripper. All those parts in the CP area, including those plywood blocks the cp latches mount to can and should be removed before painting. As far as the side art placement, I always mount it higher than the flyer shows. The cabs are short enough the way it is.

Did you remove the laminate?

I just sanded mine with 100 grit then went to finer grits till it was flat and smooth.
I then fixed any chips and dings then primed and painted.
It should be a gloss finish but gloss seems to scratch easier,so I opted for satin.

same with me. i used sand paper and steel wool. also used a great primer that someone here suggested to give the paint something to really adhere to. i went with a satin/semi gloss as well.

as for the cp positioning plates, are those the small interior blocks that hold the latches? if so, no, i didnt remove them...suppose i could at some point, just didnt seem important i guess

No, the metal plate attached to the back of the speaker grill. You painted right over it. 4 screws, remove it, clean off the sloppy blue paint and any rust that has formed on the back side.

Looks great, very nice job! Like someone posted earlier, another classic saved! Don't listen to all the nit-picking, you did a fantastic job... that being said, what kind of power supply did you use? It doesn't look like a Nintendo p/s... :)

I think he's talking about the metal piece that sits on the same side as the speaker grill. It pokes up slightly and sticks into the groove (lip) of the control panel. Take off the CP and look at the groove, then you'll see what I'm talking about :)

Don't be nit-picking his power supply.:p

LOL. No, its not original. Cab was stripped except for speaker, monitor, IT and a hacked up wiring harness.

I used the Arcadeshop harness which comes with a switching supply. It has connections for the counter but I dont think it powers it..Not sure, I didnt hook it up, dont really care about the counters.

Is this an original wiring harness? I just picked up a donkey kong and it doesnt use a single edge connector, it uses all the little plugs.
