Thanks to everyone here that helped me on this one. Your patience and knowledge was very much appreciated. This took me about 6 months...15 pictures, as you all know, cant begin to encapsulate the amount of work that goes into really doing a full teardown! Anyway, thanks again and enjoy!!

Started its new life as a sad DK Jr. Conversion...

Stripped, sanded, filled and with its first coat of primer...

First coat of DK blue rolled on (ultimately did about 8 coats)...Super super light coats of paint did an amazing job at minimizing roller marks.

Meanwhile CP gets stripped and the metal bits get 'the brush!'

More coming...

wow man, thats serious hard work right there. do you mind sharing what color code you used, brand, and where you bought the paint from? Nice nice work.

Fantastic work! Is that side art a little small?

Good eye. Yeah, I think you're right. It looks a bit small. For one thing, it's too low, but if he raised it to the "correct" height, it would be too high. Oh well, still looks good overall considering what you started with. :)

The side art is a tad low.
The "Donkey Kong" letters should be centered on the lower marquee bracket instead of the top of the letters.
That is the way the flyer shows it.

Is it dorkier to spend time scrutinizing someones arcade game restoration or be the guy restoring the game? Thats one for the ages...

But, to debunk the naysayers, here is a better pic showing the alignment. Could be a touch high I suppose...But based on what? I've found 'original' cabs with art ranging within and inch of marquee center...Not sure how tight manufacturing tolerences were 'back then'

Ugh, I've devolved.

I don't think we mean to "scrutinize." Just making observations based on the pictures you provided. A lot of guys (including myself) are really knit-picky and have serious cases of OCD when it comes to restorations.

I wouldn't worry about it. What's done is done and it looks great! That's all that matters. Heck, my side art isn't even completely straight (gasp!). It's just a hair angled on the left side. I thought I had it completely straight when I applied it, but it was too late to go back. Definitely didn't make the same mistake on the right side. But only freaks like us would notice.

:)

totally understand. Its up here, I expect it. In this case though, I'm pretty sure the side art is 'right'...Or at least with tolerences.

And in all honesty, I know some people are just upset that my DK doesnt have a trackball... ;-)

Alot of the people who knit pick couldn't do a better job than you did. If you're happy with it, then that is all that matters....... On that note the sideart is a little low, scrap it and start over. J/K. - Nice work - Barry

Proper side art placement for the challenged people.;)
