Donkey Kong Restoration

I'll bring mine to CAX so we can have 6

The machine didn't look bad at all before you gave it the God-wash. now it has a halo around it and you can probably hear singing when you walk into the same room with it.

I got some games I consider decent, and others that I consider needed working on, and ALL of them including the nicest machine I own don't come close to your BEFORE pics.
I'm just happy to have mine working.

Not saying it's nitpicky, but I sure hope you still play the game after it's beautification. It now looks like furniture you're not supposed to sit on in "those" houses.

Outstanding job. I just didn't see the need for the restro in the first place other than maybe the front panel area.

Is my Joust the only one around here that doesn't need a paint job?

I was amazed at the great condition of the sides when I picked this one off of the floor of the now closed Broadway arcade in San Francisco a couple of years back...just had to remove a couple of stickers and wash off a little graffiti. I was told that this game was the original one they had purchased brand new back in the day and had been on the floor of this arcade for around 20 years or so when I snagged it! It did need a new CPO and a few other minor cosmetic fixes, but I took care of that and it now looks and plays quite nicely if I do say so myself.

It is actually a factory-converted Robotron...you can see (if you look closely) the Robotron sideart impression under the Joust sideart. And of course the cabinet shape is a little different than the usual Joust. Could that be why the sides held up so well...because the sideart was painted over the originally applied Robotron sideart?

Seriously, if you guys do have a stenciling party of sorts, I may stop by with my System 1 cabinet so I can finally apply the new sideart I bought a while back

. Just a little skittish about applying sideart as it will be my first time is all...

I have a System I and sideart as well... should we have another party for that

?

That arcade on Broadway was awesome. I used to play Tempest, Jouset, Gaplus, etc. there. One night while I was there, a gange fight of sorts broke out and people were beating each other with broomsticks and stuff. I just sat there playing my game and was totally left alone.

One of my friends bought the Gaplus that was there.

There was an arcade on Broadway in SF? Which nudie bar was it next to?

I'm up for it!

FYI, my System 1 came from the same arcade and it, too, is in very solid shape. It was a fully working RoadBlasters originally (now it's an Indiana Jones...hey I like the game!:))...the arcade owner let me have it for a song.

The sideart is just a little faded in a couple of areas, and I scratched one side when I picked it up originally:(. Plus now one side is actually starting to peal off...

Should look stellar when the new sideart is applied...

Cool after we practice on Jon's system 1 side art application, we can do it on my Tempest.

I'll plan an arcade repair/restoration day for sometime in May when the weather is nicer. Anyone will be welcomed to bring their projects over and get some help or just to hang out and play games. I'll be working on getting my games ready for CAX.

The only catch is someone has to remind me in a month.

Is the restoration party still in effect for May? Otherwise here's an April thread-pop.

I'm thinking of bringing a Pac-Man cocktail if it's not a problem to chip in some funds for refreshments and parts twords a cap-kit.

Also great job on the DK if I didn't post that publically before, and yes - it's getting played - and photographed - and studied - and sketched....

Jonathan just asked me about this today. Yes its still on. I was thinking of doing it on May 21th, the day after the May 20th SJ auction.

Does everyone have the Joust stencils already? I need them but right now money is tight since I owe a huge chunk of change to Uncle Sam on April 17th. I would be willing to ask PROK for a group discount or at least combining the costs to save on shipping. Who needs the stencils again?

Hmm, maybe I'll bring my nice Ms. Pac-Man that is still partially painted over (got most of it off, just need to figure out how to get that "paint/decal/paint/Final Fight" layer off the sides

Or my DK. Pretty much just needs to be painted and needs a yoke tweaking/tube swap.

This would be a good opportunity for me to make the time to do these tasks
