hello everyone!

as you can tell by the pics my DK game needs a little bit of servicing. here's what a friend and i have done so far:

1. replaced all ROMs

2. resoldered bad solders

3. added the D2K set (didn't take pics of that)

when i got the game (4 board cocktail model) a year ago, everything worked fine...for a day. the very next day this started happening and, thankfully, it hasn't gotten worse. what you see in the pics is the same result before and after everything we did to try and fix the problem. some of the same sprites are messed up on D2K, too. we are completely lost on what to do next. does anyone have any constructive suggestions? please feel free to ask any questions as well.

here's a partial list of the messed up sprites:

1. kong has 3-5 heads depending on the animation

2. pauline's torso rolls down the girders instead of blue barrels

3. when mario jumps he turns his back on you

4. when mario dies he disappears during the rolling animation and then turns into a square

5. the oil barrel is a stationary blue flame

6. the hammer is a barrel

7. the fireball is a...sock???

8. the foxfires are ladders and...???

9. the springboards...???

10. the concrete tubs are stationary flames

many thanks! :001_sbiggrin:

d2k

it's for 2 or 4 board sets. on mine we had to desolder the z80 from the board and solder in a socket, then place the d2k board on that socket with the z80 on the d2k board. a piggy-piggyback kinda thing. it works and i love playing it but it's hard.

My guess is, the complete chunks of sprites (although wrong) indicate the ROM data is flowing correctly, but the addressing has problems. I'd check the address lines on the object ROMS 4M, 4N, 4R, 4S on the CLK board and the associated RAM/TTL if necessary.

thank you so much. as soon as i can i will give your advice a shot and post the results.
