Donkey Kong Power Help

I think I may have killed my donkey kong power supply and could sure use some help. I got a working power supply from a member here and when I connected it, I bypassed the on / off switch and connected it straight from the power cord. When I plugged the machine in I heard a few clicks and then saw a little smoke. I quickly unplugged it and opened up the power supply. I didn't see anything that looked burnt up inside, so I plugged it back in with it still opened up and the cap (or resistor) right next to the fuse inside the power supply turned from white to red. I quickly unplugged it again. So my questions are do you think I've completely killed it? Can I just replace that cap and will all be alright? Could I have damaged my board as well? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm still learning here. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Where exactly did you plug it in to? The Nintendo power supplies run on 100 volt and need to be plugged into the small pigtail coming off the transformer in the bottom of the cab. If it got power anywhere else it may be the reason it fried. Post pics. - Barry
 
I'll post some pictures tonight as I'm at work right now, but what I did was ran the power 120v (wire that plugs into the wall) to the 120 / 0 terminals before it gets to the transformer and grounded everything in the cabinet. I just bypassed the on / off switch which looks like it has a fuse holder there. I wasn't sure if something else was at the on / off switch that would cause this problem.
 
I never got to taking any pictures, but I found this one online and circled in red where I connected the power directly to (bypassing the on / off switch and fuse) Hope this picture will explain what I did. Any advise would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Here's a picture of the power supply on my test bench. Note the AC wires and ground connections correctly connected. Is this the way you hooked them up? If so, there shouldn't have been an issue.

Yup. That's exactly how I hooked it up. Maybe the power supply I got wasn't actually working and I'm not a complete dope! I guess my next question would be is can I just rebuild this power supply? Should I just start by replacing the cap or resistor that turned red when I plugged it in or should I replace all the caps in it?
 
Here is a picture of the cap or resistor or whatever it is that turned red almost instantly when I plugged it in. It says R1 right next to it on the board, and from looking at the manual I see an R1 that says "2w20" below it. Would that be what I'd need to replace this with? Man do I feel lost... Sorry about the giant photo.

Can anyone tell me where I could find a 2w20 resistor? I checked on Bob Roberts site and I see a 2w 1.8 ohm resistor, but I can't seem to find where to get an exact replacement. Thanks.
