I recently fixed up a donkey kong machine that had a 4 board set in it and decided that I wanted to try and get as many games for the single cab that I have as I could. I plan on leaving the 4 board original, and I have already bought a double donkey kong board for both of those games, so I decided to find another regular 2 board set to install D2K in to complete the collection of boardsets.
I stumbled across a board on ebay that was tested working, but had a broken pot so the picture wouldnt hold that I scored for $36. I got exactly what I paid for because when I got the board, it looked like it had been through a tornado and I noticed a few other problems with it. I replaced the pots and fired it up and it worked pretty good but was missing several sounds like the points when you jumped a barrel, and all of the background music. I noticed one of the sockets was cracked and the pin was kinda bent out and wasnt making contact with the chip. I bent it back as best I could, and I suppose it was now making contact because the board works as it should with all sounds and music.
Now to the question at hand, should I repair the socket, and the few other problems I spotted on the board, or leave it be as it is now working? Here are some pictures of what is messed up on the board.
This is the board set with circles around the problems:
Here is a close up of the socket I mentioned:
Here is a picture of a semi smashed cap:
Lastly, here is a smashed thing that I have no idea what it is called, there are two like this and these type of part are all over the board:
This site has been pretty much my step by step guide to everything I needed to fix in other areas of my DK, so I was wondering what your opinions would be on fixing these problems, or not because the board does work. If I were to fix it what would I need, a 40-pin socket, the smashed cap, and what ever the last part is? Bob Roberts carrys this stuff right? Or if any of you have the parts I would gladly buy them from you if you think I should repair this before buying D2K.
Thanks for all the help and reading my monster post!
