Reproduction marquees and side art do not cut into sales of "Greatest Hits" collections for modern platforms and online downloads, which is all the current IP holders care about.
But that is an issue for another thread...
More games are being destroyed now than when they were first pulled from routes. That is the issue at hand. It is a serious problem.
Games that were safely stored for decades are vanishing.
My question is, why do collectors acquire games they don't have space for? Games that have sat unharmed for thirty years? If you don't have the space to store or the ability to repair and maintain something there is a simple answer... DON'T BUY IT!
If you do, and because of circumstance can no longer keep something, at least accept responsibility for the game and find a good home for it.

I've mentioned your last couple lines in posts before and got flamed for it pretty good Van so it is a bit delicate. Space issues are one thing but the money factor is the big one you left out. Repairing/restoring any of these old games takes hundreds and many times thousands (i know you can relate) though it's never considered when the exitement of a big find is in front of you. I really wonder how many of us give any real thought to this?
I've been slayed many times for the way i do things but i also restore games that tend to be very expensive especially when i'm forking out thousands to have parts and artwork made initially for my restorations but ultimately for everyone else that's interested, this is the part that many have no clue about. Ask me what some of these projects cost and make sure you're sitting down when i tell you. It's true, i've probably laid more junk conversions,Jamma games (and some classics) to rest than anybody in this state however, hundreds of people have also benefitted from these cabinets that from a cost standpoint weren't even worth returning to original.
It's a slippery slope for alot of people, look at all the members that have posted great finds only to clog the repair/help forums, bury themselves and either disappear or sell their project for parts cuz they'll never get it back any other way. This is an expensive hobby that takes tons of time, space, patience and money, if you aren't prepared for it, don't buy into it. A garage full of $50 machines is a great deal until you plug em in, they don't work and the back of the cabinet has to come off.
