Okay, I need some advice from the collectors here.

Currently, I have in my collection a Double DK. Specifically, it is an orange DK Jr. cab containing a DK JR pcb + DK upgrade kit board along with DK Sideart & CPO, DK JR Bezel, and a Double DK marquee. I didn't create this "mixture" of artwork lol. I can post pics if desired.

Now, I will be picking up a cab Saturday that is a converted DK. I am also working out a pick up on a DK mini.

After I am done, I will potentially have: 1 DK Jr, 1 converted DK, and 1 DK mini. Given I am limited in this size of my collection, this seems like a bit much.

So...which do I get rid of? The plan is to turn/restore the orange one into a DK Jr machine, the converted one into a red cab DK, and the mini back to its original glory.

I am just a little uncertain on what I should do in regards to this Donkey Kong redundancy.

Anyone have any advice?

Regards,

Phil

By mini you mean cabaret? If so, keep that one, they are more comfortable to play than a full size. The control panel is higher, and there is no marquee in your face.

I would say ditch the converted DK. Oh and install D2K in the cabaret.

If it were me, I would sell the mini to help re-coup the costs of putting together the red DK and orange DKJR.

I know it is the current KLOV fad, but as far as Nintendo is concerned, I prefer the uprights over the mini/cabaret

Figure out the one you like better between the mini and converted UR and ditch the other one. The cabarets are ok, but I prefer the full size monitors.

Yes that is correct, by DK mini I did indeed mean a DK Cabaret.

And what is the latest KLOV fad? The DK cabaret or red-cab DK?

Keep in mind, I am kind of a giant, note the picture below for reference, with a height of 6'5". That said, out of all of my machines, I find my Ms. Pac cabaret and Centipede cabaret the most comfortable. You wouldn't think so being they're smaller but it's weird...

Hmm... I may be able to convince my buddy Tbbk to take the converted DK off my hands after I get what I need out of it. I don't know, I'm still not sure.

Latest Fad = Recognition of the charm of a cabaret cabinet

I can't get into it, as I couldn't with the Nintendo red-tent craze of 3-4 years back that saw the prices of those shoot up.

BTW, Nice Food Fight!

I am 6'1" and I find the Cabaret so much more comfortable, I have to hunch over just to see the monitor on my Full Size JR.

I see the need for RED cabinets, not only for those who want to mimic the original DK conversion, but for those who prefer DK III in 'em.

Why is that? Every DK3 I ever saw back in the day was in a Orange or Blue converted DK or JR cabinet. Did the kit come with red vinyl or something?

I agree. It just appears that most collectors like how the Red compliments the DK III artwork. Especially when they already have a DK Blue and DKJR Orange in their line-ups. To agree with JamBurglar, I would keep a cabinet the color of its original finish, but I understand why some go Red.

I won't have that problem because I never plan to have DKJR or DKIII in my lineup. I do use an original DK Blue for my DK, and a converted DKJR Orange for my VS. SMB.

I say put the Double Donkey Kong board in the cabaret and set up the converted one as a red DK 3 and I will take the orange DK off your hands because I don't really care if it is orange.

I personally think it is too much red, the control panel, bezel, marquee, sides etc.

You're probably right.

I go back and forth when I see the various pictures. Every now and then I see those pics of a DK Orange or DKJR Blue, and I get why someone does it, just like a DK III Red.

Most times though I would agree with you, I like the contrast between the cabinet color and artwork.

Hmm...the question is do I want Mario & Luigi's retarded brother whose name we shall not speak in my line up? :D

Buy a stool dude.;)

I never cared for cabaret's at all.....almost worse than a cocktail....

Yet...far easier on your back to move! I don't know about Tighe but seeing how I don't have the greatest back and back problems are common amongst tall people, that's not a bad thing at all...
