Donkey Kong on Ebay- Knoxville worlds fair '82 for $5K?

Does anyone know why this Donkey Kong would be worth $5K? This may be the ultimate collectible for a KLOVer, or total B.S., but I'm curious to hear what the deal is with this one...

I sent him a PM to see if he could provide more historical facts and pics/documents to support whatever claim he is making.. :) Again, perhaps I'm missing something about this machine.. after all, I'm not a DK historian, nor do I pretend to be one.. but this guy obviously is. Let's see what he says..

I probably played this machine when I was up there in '82! Wow... how the years have flown by. I think I still have several of the arcade tokens from the World's Fair also. I wonder if I could get $500 apiece for them on eBay???

;-) -- I repeat --> ;-)

Can you please forward me what he sends you? I collect info on the '82 fair and would love to see if he provides additional pics.

The seller finally got back with me.. I asked him a bunch of questions about the game, the tokens, and the tag.. this is what he said.. Nothing, btw, that makes me want to bid on this machine for more than what it's actually worth..

"the token you are referring to were given out as a collectable. the ones you see were ones used to play the game. as far as pictures of it at the event. i do not have anything. you can purchase a cd online i believe for $60 with pictures of the event. How many machines out there have you see the tag on?"

I emailed the owver of FAC (Family Amusement Co) and this is what he said:

It looks like one of our earlier tags on a game that might have been sold.
Why do you ask ?

The Video Expo was at the 1982 Worlds Fair. Funtown Arcade sounds like a local arcade.

it's interesting, but everything could've been thrown together with some work to make this auction as well. if i were going to buy it for that price, which i'm not, i'd want a shitload of documentation as well as a way to contact and verify with that prior owner.

Always the fun possibility that someone took the tokens from the fair, went over to an FAC location and used them to play a game that'd been on location since release (thus the radarscope cab), with the machine itself not ever having been on location at the fair. Either way with the piles and piles of documentation the seller seems to have on offer to support his claims about the machine's history, no way in hell has it gotten anywhere near being worth $5K, and won't be any time soon.

The serial # tag shows serial #10598, so being that low of a serial matches up with it being a red cab.

It would be a nice machine for a DK collector, but at a fraction of this sellers price... perhaps he'll figure that out by the offers he gets.
