Donkey Kong not powering on

Thank you I'm hoping the coil is what I need
measure continuity between the 2 pins. if it's reading shorted then the insulation is exposed in a spot and touching the metal frame.

I don't know what anyone suggests for recovering it. it looks a lot like electrical tape to me. lol

This is what I got when checking continuity.

I did not I sent it out for a cap kit I will order one and do that as well then.

Stick with it. This is good training. If you plan on owning these games you pretty much need to learn how to deal with this type of stuff. It can be daunting but if you hang in there you will be able to resolve most things, build your knowledge base, and get better at it.

I appreciate it yes this donkey Kong is never leaving my possession thank you that helps motivate me to keep pushing.

I have a frogger I am jumping into after the donkey Kong is running.

Besides the obvious purity issues that you are having, (I would consider just fixing that with a quality handheld degaussing coil) the screen pot on your flyback is too high because your retrace lines are visible.

Those white vertical lines and that "blue-ish" background will disappear when you turn the screen pot down.

You should be aiming for a pure black background.

I'm working on getting another coil and okay I will try turning that down when I get home today. Question when I turn on the machine the screen scrolls but once I adjust the knobs near the chassis the imagine stays still. Any idea what could be causing that issue?

What pot on the chassis are you adjusting to fix the scrolling?

The v hold is what I have been adjusting sorry forgot to mention that. Then the imagine is completely still and stops scrolling completely.

How long are you letting the game run before adjusting that V HOLD pot?

Couple of things:

1. You could be fighting against yourself each time you turn the game on. You might try letting the game warm up for 5-10 minutes first before adjusting that pot.
2. The pot could be dirty and you can fix that right up with some De-Oxit.

The 2 pots on the PCB are V-POS and H-POS (Vertical and Horizonal Positioning). Those pots protrude from the board and often get a lot of stress put on them if anyone lays the board on a table. You can inspect those pots for cracked solder joints but if those are really bad, then just break off. If they look good, then it doesn't hurt to treat them with some de-oxit.

Only use De-oxit while the game is off. Spray a very tiny amount inside the pot and work it back and forth all the way several times. (Take note of where the pot was positioned before you do this to save yourself the time of having to adjust the screen all over again when you turn it back on)

I'll let it warm up because I've just been waiting for it to turn on them adjusting.i will look at all that today when I get home thank you so much.

No sound was coming from the game recapped the sound board and we have sound now. Did the deoxit on the pot and board is no longer rotating after warming up. Just waiting for the coil to come in and hopefully that fixed the purity amd game will be running 🙏🏽. Can't thank everyone enough for all your support I am beyond excited.

Replaces the PTH451C got the replacement coil. But it was the PTH451C that was bad hole in the bottom. Machine is up and running colors look amazing now. Thank you again to everyone got my own donkey Kong now onto frogger next.
