Hello, I'm new to this whole thing and am trying to get Donkey Kong up and running. Here's what I've run into so far:

Loud hum - ordered the cap kit from Bob Roberts and that solved that.

Power supply - The -5 volt rails weren't working, only got a white screen when that was hooked up. Got a new one on eBay, swapped that one in, tested it with a multimeter and it looks good.

PCB - got an as-is board on eBay, looks to be in good shape. Took all the chips out that I could, cleaned them and put them back in. One of the pins on the 7CT chip was bent, straightened that one. With this board, all I'm getting is a blue/almost black screen with no audio. Checked the voltages at the edge connector, and all the voltages are there.

I took this board by a local arcade, and they swapped it into a Popeye machine, and got the same results. However, it looks like the voltages aren't the same between the two games, so I'm not sure what that told me.

Now I'm sort of stuck. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, a stock Popeye can't run a Donkey Kong board, because the Popeye power supply doesn't have the -5v. Also, the wiring harnesses are a bit different - dedicated Donkey Kong machines (at least, all the ones I've seen) use the "bunch of little connectors" type harness. Popeye uses a single edge connector. The Donkey Kong 2-board stack has both types of connectors. But... if you use the edge connector on Donkey Kong, you need a small (10 pin?) cable that goes from one board to the next, to carry power. This is usually made of multicolored ribbon cable, and referred to as the "rainbow cable". It's not used in the "bunch of little connectors" wiring harness, since there is an individual power cable going to each board.

How is your Donkey Kong machine wired?

I'm in Austin, TX.

It's the 2 board DK, I don't use the edge connector, I'm not sure how to describe what it's using, from what I can tell, it uses the 9p and 10p connections from the power supply. I've been using the wiring diagram from Mikes Arcade to hook this up.

Took both boards out and looked them over with a magnifying glass, but couldn't see anything obvious.

Does anybody know where I can get this thing repaired?
