I'm working on a 2 board set DK, and there's no 'pounding' sound when Kong climbs the girders and jumps on them. All other sounds work just fine. I've already replaced the transistor at Q4, and reflowed the solder in what I believe to be the majority of the audio area on the CPU board. I've checked for solutions on Mike's Arcade repair logs, as well as many other threads here and BYOAC. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try to get this sound back?

Thanks in advace...

Alright, I can do that. Here's the caps I see in that general area. They're all electrolytic caps, except for 3 mylar caps I see at C22, C27, and C28.

Here are the values I see. Can someone with a DK board schematic please verify these numbers before I place my order? Thanks!

Problem: No pounding sound from Kong

Missing only Kong sounds when he jumps on and breaks the girders in the introduction and no sound when he pounds on the girders.

First, I cleaned and re-seated all the eproms and the 8039, no change. I replaced C24 elec. cap, as it was corroded leg was falling off, still no Kong pounding sound. Then reheated the solder on all the caps and transistors around the area of C22 and the ones around two sound eproms. Viola! It worked. Now, if I could only figure out which cap did the trick. It's nice to hear Kong again.

Solution: reflow the solder on the caps in the sound circuit.

I am getting the triggering -- the sound is barely audible.

The only caps in the section that I did not replace are the ceramic caps at C22 and C27 and C28. Since it's pretty rare that ceramic caps fail, I have not replaced them yet.

I reflowed the solder in the area too. Can someone identify which chips are the sound eproms on my 2 board set? Also, newbie question I'm sure, but what's the 8032? Is that the main CPU chip?

The long IC next to the Z80CPU is for your audio (forget part#) - pull it, clean legs, reflow socket and reinsert chip. See if that works for you.
