My donkey kong does not have any audio. The game worked great for a while but then this problem came little by little as the audio quality got worse and worse. It took a few days for it to completely go out but now there is nothing at all.

I've read a lot of articles and most seem to suggest that if the problem is on the game board itself, it will typically be EITHER sound effects OR sound not working, but typically not both since they're independent. Is this correct?

Just wondering because I'm really unsure where to start, whether with the game board or the amplifier board at the monitor.

I have reseated the 8035 chip and verified continuity on all legs as well as the two audio rom chips with no change. If the 8035 were to fail would it kill all audio or just the music?

Also does anyone know what the voltages are supposed to be coming from the main monitor board to the amplifier board? I'm getting something like 108, and 130 or something like that (cant quite remember). Thanks for the help.

That sounds like one of the transistors on the sound amp slowly going to me.....
Pull the sound board, rebuild it, if it still is doing the same thing, then I'd dig into the DK PCB.....
Do you own a DeLorean? My Brother had one... AAAAwwwesome car......TERRIBLY underpowered though.......

I would recap the sound board portion of the monitor. You may actually see the largest cap on it pretty much rotted off on the bottom - seen that a few times.

I just fixed a no sound on my dk cocktail.. The volume pot needed to be resoldered. Not sure if the upright has the same volume pots.

My vote goes to caps on the audio board too. Like mentioned, its common to find a cap or two with the legs rotted right off.

Ok, first order of business is definitely to rebuild the sound board. Shouldn't be too bad. Also Zork, yea I do have a DeLorean and yes it is way underpowered, haha.
