Donkey Kong Monitor just went black... No neck glow :-(

This particular machine was purchased essentially dead.

When you would turn it on the monitor would show one of a variety of things. A blue screen, blue and black snow, etc.

When I plugged a new board from Mikesarcade.com today I didn't get really get any change. I was able to get a little bit of sound (gameplay sound) but I'm mainly getting a low hum.

Anyway, now it appears dead. There is no color in the monitor; there is no glow in the neck; there's not even that normal high pitch tone. When it first turns on you hear the high pitch sound for about a second or two and then it goes away.

Trying to find a starting place. I figure a cap kit isn't a bad place to start. Any other suggestions? Think a cap kit is even part of the problem. Also what about a flyback transformer? I'm considering replacing it unless it seems completely unnecessary.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Also I've got several other machines (though no nintendo). Is it possible for me to plug this game into the monitor of one of the other games just to test the board?

I found a note on the side of the monitor from the previous owner/repair person. It says:

Cap Kit Installed
Problem w/H.V. (possibly cracked flyback)
Missing Green Color
Bad Audio

I'm not quite sure what everything means.

Also I was reading through some technical stuff and they often refer to the HOT circuit. What is the HOT circuit?

If it has a crack in the flyback you should be able to see it.
Do you here the high voltage as the monitor powers up?
If not check the fuse. possible bad reulator ic.
At first my first thought was that you had one of the 100uf 160v caps going out which are around the flyback area and middle of the board. That will cause brightness problems.
hot section is the horizontal output transistor which is connected to the metal as a heat sink to dissapate heat. check with your meter and see if you have shorts across the legs.
