I picked up a near perfect Donkey Kong and a nonworking Vanguard off EBay for $266 the orher day. Still in awe of the sweet deal. I lugged the game inside because I can't be having DK in the cold while Jr. is inside. I adjusted the volume at VR2 on the CPU board to a good inside the house level. Put the back on and put it back in place. The next time I went to play the game volume was where I set it but when I moved Mario his footstep sounds were just as loud as before I lowered the volume. So basically all sounds are good except for the footsteps. Any ideas?

Thanks

I am guessing that you have the two board version of the main PCB. Mine has the 4 board version. I don't know if yours works this way, but mine has a sound balance pot on the sound board. On yours, it is probably the one you are talking about on the CPU board. The sound volume pot is located on the monitor. It is the control on the very left side of the adjustment board. My advise is that you adjust the first pot you adjusted back to the middle of its range and use the volume pot on the monitor. I had a similar problem with my DK when I got it. I mistook the sound balance pot for the volume pot.
