My Donkey Kong's lower bezel retain appears to have been installed backwards. The "lip" that sticks out that makes it easier to remove is facing inward, opposite of the attached picture. When I take out my bezel, I have to jam something underneath it to allow me to get a grip and tilt it out. I'm worried that one day I might scratch the bezel.

I've tried to gently remove it, but it is stuck on pretty good. I can't tell if there's some sort of glue or just 30 years worth of dust and dirt and gunk crammed in there.

What do you all think, is it worth damaging the bezel to try to remove and flip the retainer? Any tips on how to do this? Were they glued on?

The bracket on my DK is backwards too. There must have been a run of these where someone was asleep at the switch. The glue on the retainer holds it pretty tight, but the good news is that the bezel sits in the bracket pretty securely even without the glue, so removing it may be worth the hassle depending on how much it bothers you.

Many operators reversed that bracket to make it harder to get into the machine for free credits. I've had several that were glued or siliconed. I was able to pull them off with a little effort. - Barry

Yeah, I had a cab where it was glued. That was really annoying to clean out and sand off.

Someone should make a list of stupid operator techniques that seemed smart at the time but causes hell for someone that would restore the game 20-30 years later. :)
