I've installed new buttons on the Donkey Kong Junior, and new t-molding also. Now to the serious stuff.

When I picked up my machine, the previous owner said he wired some pc speakers to it because it was "too loud". So, right now I have a cheap pair of speakers inside my cabinet. Do not want. I'd rather correct the issue and use the cabinet's real speaker.

My plan for tonight is to rewire the speaker.

Has anyone else experienced a Donkey Kong/Junior/Nintendo cab that was "too loud"? I know there is a volume control and this is the first thing I will try, but I can't imagine somebody bright enough to wire speakers and who also possessed the game manual and referred to it would not think of this. Still, this would be best case scenario.

I'm asking this question to see if there is anything you suggest I look at first. I have done some googling and haven't seen anybody with the overall game being too loud issue. I haven't experienced the problem myself yet, so I can report back on that with more details and better description if the volume control doesn't fix the issue.

Thanks,
Paul

The way the volume controls work is the higher the resistance is on the pot, the less volume you hear. So if it's too loud, that means the volume control isn't providing enough resistance. It could be that the pot is bad and shorted out, or will only adjust slightly.

I'm going to go ahead and bet though that the audio amp was buzzing because it needs recapped, so the guy may have hacked in those cheap ass amplified computer speakers. Are they plugged in and are powered?

Nope, you just have to remove it, put new caps in where the old ones are, and put it back in the cabinet. I'll bet your wiring is cut all to hell, though.
