I posted a message here yesterday about my DK Junior, and about how when I bought it the guy said he wired the sound to pc speakers instead of the cabinet speaker because it was "too loud". I've decided that this is unacceptable and would like to wire up the speaker again to hear it for myself and hopefully fix the problem correctly.

I investigated the issue tonight and have taken some pictures.
The first picture (43.jpg) is of how the pc speakers are wired to the cabinet, with the red and white cords.

The second picture (50.jpg) is of the speaker itself.

The third picture (47.jpg) is of a wire that is connected to nothing.

The final picture(48.jpg) is of where this orphan cord originates on the board on the monitor. It connects beside and just to the right of R242.

Any advice on how to reconnect the speaker? Do I solder the red cord from the first picture to the left bottom connection of the speaker and the white to the right?

Anybody know what that orphan cord from the third picture is supposed to connect to?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

In the first picture, the brown cable coming off the board should go to the sound amp on the left of the monitor is the sound cable.
From the sound amp there should be a 2 wires, red and white that go to the speaker that is all that you need for sound.
Looking at the pic it looks like the red and white wires go from the sound amp to the computer speakers.
If that is the case then hook the stock speaker up to those wires instead of the computer speakers.
If it doesn't work then most likely the sound amp need to be rebuilt or replaced.
It would help if you post a pic of the sound amp,so we could see if anything else is missing or not hooked up.
Not sure what that lone wire is for.
In the last pic I think that is the power wire for the inverter board.
Not needed unless you use the monitor for non Nintendo games.
Just leave it alone.

Thanks for the responses.

I'll post a picture of the sound amp. Is the sound amp the small board above the pots for controlling v-size, v-hold, volume, etc?

For wiring to the speaker, should I solder? How do you all connect wires to your speakers?

Yes the sound amp is above the pots and a small transformer. I think they are soldered originally so I'd just do that. - Barry

Here is a wiring diagram in case you don't have one.

Schematics

I do have the schematics (and the original manual). Understanding them is more of a challenge. Thanks for posting them though.

Does something other than the speaker produce at least a little bit of sound? With the volume cranked, I can very faintly hear music coming from somewhere (and it's not the voices in my head this time) even though I don't have the red and white wires connected to the speaker at all. At least I have something. Does this detail help at all?

Does it matter if I wire the red on the left or the right of the speaker? This picture looks like red on the left and white on the right.

I have an old guy's hockey game tonight and will try to post some pictures after that.

In that pic the red wire is on the negative terminal and the white is on the positive terminal.
I don't think it really matters or they would have marked the schematic to show + of -.
If there were 2 speakers then polarity would be important.

Sound amp picture

Well, I took a pic of the sound amp. It's pretty blurry though, so let me know if I should take another.

I have included another pic. Notice that there's nothing connected to "7P SOU". Is this bad?

Only the 4 board DK sets used the 7p sou connection.
