I just finished restoring the Donkey Kong Junior that I picked up this summer. Here are a few "before" pics:

Here's what I did:

- built a new cabinet base
- cleaned the power supply and wiring, put a new plug on the power cord
- repainted cabinet rear, top and backdoor with Tremclad flat black (brushed)
- repainted coin door, base and interior sides of cabinet with Tremclad semi-gloss black (rattle can)
- filled scratches, repaired missing chucks of cabinet edges and corners with Bondo
- primed with Zinsser BIN and sanded smooth
- painted orange with oil-based semigloss (rolled on)
- applied new side art
- installed new t-molding
- rebuilt joystick, added new ball top
- installed new CPO, instruction card, added new buttons
- installed new fluorescent bulb and starter
- put on new coin door and bezel decals from thisoldgame.com
- cleaned the marquee and bezel using Novus
- programmed and installed EPROMs with souzilla's freeplay files

And this is how it looks now:

I made a Flickr set with lots more progress pics if anyone's interested:

Compared to the Pac-Man, this one seemed easy. =) I was a little concerned with rolling paint on a Nintendo cab, but I was pleasantly surprised how nice and smooth it turned out. I've since taken the monitor out to do a cap kit, but otherwise it's done!

That's pretty. Excellent work!

I had one that I restored to minty shape as well. I used the unconventional DK Blue for it and it turned out nice. I don't regret selling it as it opened new and different opportunities for me.

I also recommend getting the joystick dust washers from gamestencils.com (http://www.gamestencils.com/index.php?crn=221&rn=438&action=show_detail). Keep the dust and particles out! :)

I got the monitor looking really good tonight. After I cleaned it up, replaced the capacitors (including filter cap), adjusted it and put it back in the cabinet, the colours were still a bit off. My corded drill helped a little to degauss it, but not quite enough, so I ordered a proper degaussing coil which I finally got in the mail today. It worked great and cleared up the remaining colour splotches nicely:

I'm going to do jrok's high score save mod on the board, then this project is done done. :)

Splendid job! Those Nintendo cabinets look beautiful fully restored, esp. DKJR.

Looks really nice!

I use my Weller soldering gun to degause. That sucker pulls colors fantasically!

This just pisses me off. My edges are nowhere near as sharp and clean, and you did a way better job painting. cant see any imperfections or roll marks, like there are on mine.

go a dkjnr in my garage waiting for some tlc - it is in a blue cab so i'll have to paint it the correct colour -

speaking of the correct colour, is the cabinet colour the same as the organe at the top of kongs head ?
