I just today purchased my first game, Donkey Kong Junior. The game plays well, but is in need of some serious tlc.

For example, the back door/panel is missing. I'd like to change that. I have a few questions about that and I thought you all might be able to help.

Is there anywhere to buy replacement back doors for arcade cabinets?

If not, what type of wood should I use to make a replacement? Also, how should I fasten it to the cabinet so I am able to get back inside from time to time? Does anybody have any pictures of what the back door is supposed to look like?

Thank you in advance.

Paul

Welcome. It starts with just one...

Do a search you'll find tons of info on Donkey Kong cabinet. You'll just need to make a back door. You add the lock like it had originally and it will stay in place. Or just screw it in place.

Search donkey kong restoration, you'll find it.

Ballytablewiz - I'm in Central Pennsylvania (think Penn State University), so I imagine that's a bit to far. Crap!

Probably too hard/expensive to ship. Do you happen to have any pictures of it (if not that's okay)?

For what it's worth,
They're about $20-$25 to ship one. I had one shipped to me for my Playchoice 10 restoration. I could have made one but I really wanted an original so it was worth what I paid plus shipping. (around $45 total)

Good luck.

Follow up questions

I finally found a picture online of a dk cabinet back. Seems easy enough.

I can get the dimensions by measuring the gaping hole in the back of my cabinet.

I do have two more questions.

1. What type of wood should I use to build the panel? Mdf, particle board, plywood? About what thickness should I use?

2.Does the panel screw into the back at all or does it just rest inside there and it is held in by the lock?

Sorry if these questions seem simple, but this is my first cabinet (like it was said earlier, this is already very addictive).

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Use 1/2" paintable grade plywood.

The door sits in a lip on the lower panel of the cab and the lock holds it closed.

Thanks

Thank you jimkirk. That should be enough for me to go on. I guess it's not the most important thing I need for my cab, but it will be nice to have.

I will be removing the door on my DK is a couple days to swap out the monitor and can take pics if you need them.
Pm me if you need them.

OK here are some pic of my DK back door.
It is a little beat up but all there.

That cutout at the bottom

jimkirk,
Thanks so much. Guess I'll measure the back of my cabinet tonight so I can get me one of those.

A question. What is the cutout at the bottom of the door for? Just a space for the power cord to peak out of? If so, I might not make mine quite so fancy and just put a hole there for the power cord.

Thanks again,
Paul

The rectangle cutout is for ventilation.
It is just cut out and a piece placed over it with blocks separating them.
The round hole in the very bottom is for the power cord.
There is also one on the cab, just put one in the same spot on the door.
If you don't then the door won't go on.
