Donkey Kong Jr. Strategy help

Hopefully a DK Jr Kill screen at Funspot is in my immediate future. :)

Oh yeah, you can do it! As you know, you should never really die on the Vines and the Hideout if you are playing just to clear boards. Play it safe on the chains, stay below the second row of birds if there are a lot of snapjaws ready to come down, and don't be afraid to let the timer run down to "000". ;) Obviously the riskiest board is the springboard, and I would practice the "safest pattern" you have, and especially practice the backup plan when the super-jump doesn't happen. I did a quick-run the other day to the KS and died only once scoring 680k. I didn't time it, but I think it took somewhere between 90-105 minutes.

Good luck!

Thx. I'm going to try to press I think since it will likely be reffed and I'd like to get into the top 9 on the board, but we'll see....and I pretty much always stay below the 2nd row of birds because I am a pussy. :)

Ahh, well then if you are pressing I hope to see you above one million on the leaderboard! I don't know what kind of end of L=4 scores you are getting but I'm thinking that L=5 and beyond averages of 50k should get you pretty close to 1000k.

Hmmmm....not sure, I'll start taking note of where I'm at. Out of curiousity, what is normally your score range when Mario's Hideout makes its first appearance? My spring board clearing and lock board clearing is slower I'm sure, but I do think I'm decent at making up for it with snapjaw/bird killing on lock boards pretty well.

Man... this in an awesome thread for DKjr fans...

/Jeff grabs some popcorn and pop and waits for the next reply... :)

Any hint of Jeff K adding 4 more new levels to DKJR?

Gotta say I would totally love to see a DK2JR upgrade. :)

If things go "well" and if no fruit drops are missed, I'm usually sitting around 65-70k at that point in the game. The wild-card being how obedient the snapjaws decide to be on the chain levels.

That would be awesome, but for some reason I don't see this happening. If it does, they need to do it right and include Jumpman's lady in the mix. :) I'd love to see her with a whip going to town on those snapjaws! *snap snap snap*

I thought i heard Steve Webie was the worlds Greatest DKJR Player?

Wow that video is just amazing I can see why your the greatest player. I had watched the other video many times and i would'nt how different i play it becouse plays it sooo fast.

Mario's hideout the 3rd spark is the hardest thing for me.

Mark took the title on April 19, 2010. Congrats Mark!

Well, that should be easy to fix. Since you have watched Jeff F's video then you already know to make it up to the second apple as soon as possible to set yourself up for the fast spark smash. What I've been doing is once Jr. lands on the second platform to head for that second apple, is to listen for "5 steps" as he goes left. That should position yourself perfectly below the apple and maybe give you and extra split-second to concentrate on the smash. Getting the smash down pat is, of course, just a matter of practice.

If you are playing for points, missing this spark wreaks havoc on a scoring average because you have to waste time trying to set up a safe opportunity to kill him with the top apple (which can be tricky), when that apple should be used for a triple blue spark smash. You can lose 10k+ on that board by missing that spark.

Steve W: If you read this, what'd you get at Funspot? :)

I've watched your video a few times its really helped on the Vine levels.

Yeah getting that 3 spark has'nt worked out quite yet. I'm normaily at 54k too 60k by the time i get to the first Mario's hideout

Marky jump button is not working so no Jr on this trip for me. Have been working on some other titles
Kill screen will have to wait for Richie's.

Nice! That is a very good scoring rate! :)

That sucks. Good luck with the other titles! So many games, so little time. I regret not being able to make it out this year to meet some of you guys and play some of those great games. It would be a real bummer though to reserve time off from work and to travel that far with the intention of setting a big score on a particular game, only to find out a button "doesn't work". ;)

I'm sure the fine folks at fs would have fixed it if I brought it up but there were tons of other games to play and I didn't want to bug anyone as everyone is super busy during tournament time. I played circus Charlie got 410k. Alpine ski 147k and gorf 235k. Had a blast great folks all of them I love going up to funspot every year.

I was able too do the 3 Spark tonight in the first Mario's hideout!

one question after you use the fruit on the 3 sparks for 1600 you moved too the start of the 3 level and started jumping the sparks. the ones that come close too me i'm not able too jump them and getting points for them before they fall too the second level.

Seems like they where coming alot faster and more often for you.

Oh yeah, I understand. Who knows what was really wrong with it anyways. Could've been a time-consuming repair. I'm not at all familiar with Circus Charlie's scoring, but 147k on Alpine Ski? Wow! Great score on Gorf, too. 3-man start, eh?

That's an easy fix. Just like in Donkey Kong, when Jr. is at the peak of his jump the game will "check" for objects below in order to award points. This area that is checked on vertical jumps is small, but if you push a left or right directional while jumping you can expand this area, which will make it much easier to "claim" all of your jump points.

Yep 3 men start on gorf. Playing the space harrier cockpit while drunk was probably my gaming highlight. That thing is awesome. I kept moving left even of there were enemies there just to feel the motion LOL.

This thread has made me head back to my goal of getting at least 100k.

My old high was around 93k. The other night I got to the 2nd Mario's hideout without dying at 96k, and only finished at 98,800. Horrible.

Now I can't seem to even come close to that. I want to break 100k so I can move on to frogger or popeye.
