So I just put the finishing touches on my DK and of course I fire it up and issues. Ugh.

The color in the middle of the screen was lighter than it should. Which I think I need to throw a cap kit at it.

But also there are spots like at the first ladder where jumpman and moving objects disappears but the ladders is still there also a spot on the other side where moving objects disappear.

Anyone seen this? I will try to post a pic.

So here is a link to a video showing the issues. Which at the the end of the video the monitor just went white. Right after the I stopped the video the game came back after a screen of garbage was shown.

Does your monitor appear to turn on and off still? If so, it's likely not the monitor.

I do not believe you need a cap kit on that monitor. It looks more like you need to degauss it. Is this a cocktail or upright cab? If it's a cocktail, make sure the lid is closed before you fire it up. If it's an upright, leave the game off for more than 30 minutes (allow the degauss circuit to cool down) and turn the game 90 degrees and fire it again. Does the color issue change?

As far as the missing parts of the game board, that looks like eprom issues. Is this a 2 board or 4 board set? Make sure you don't have any dirty/loose/bad eproms or sockets. Remove, inspect, clean with emery board or fine grit sandpaper, re-insert.

Lastly, make sure all interconnect cables (ribbon cables) are good, and properly seated.

You DID make sure that your power supply is outputting the correct voltages, right? Metered them? Always check the power supply first.

- It's an upright.

- 2 board set

-this is a likely issue as I just put it all together last night.

- let my dad borrow my DMM. So wont be able to check till next weekend. Also a likely cause as its an stock (old) supply an I just got the board from Eldorado games last year and it's just been sitting but anything can happen.

Thank you for your input. It will help me greatly as I am new to this and need a place to start.

More than happy to help!

I've been playing with Nintendo stuff a lot lately, and I'm getting pretty comfortable. Feel free to PM me or shoot updates here with questions.

You really do need to meter your voltage supply first, to make sure you're starting with the proper power. Are you using an edge connector to hook up the 2 board set, or are you using the multi-connector (lots of smaller connectors)?

Lots of small connectors. So lots of places for loose connections. Lol

Actually, in my opinion, the multi-harness does a better job than the edge connector, in terms of maintaining a good connection.

OK, that being said, here's the measurements you need to take on your harness:

On the 9 pin connector:

Pin 1: Gnd
Pin 2: Gnd
Pin 3: Gnd
Pin 4: +12v
Pin 5: +12v
Pin 6: +5v
Pin 7: +5v
Pin 8: -5v
Pin 9: +24v

On the 10 pin connector:

Pin 1: -5v
Pin 2: -5v
Pin 3: -5v
Pin 4: -5v
Pin 5: Gnd
Pin 6: Gnd
Pin 7: Gnd
Pin 8: Gnd
Pin 9: +5v
Pin10: +5v

Measure for those voltages and make sure you're good.

Ok, You guys where right about turning the cab 90 degrees and that it was a deguassing issue. But I was making sure all the chips where seated and plugs were tight and it fixed that problem for about 3 mins and then stuff started disappearing again. This really makes me think the power supply is breaking down. I know anything can happen but I just got that board last year from Eldorado games. I am going to go ahead and order a switching power supply kit from Arcadeshop and put that in and I think that will fix it up.

Just wanted to give you guys an update.

Ted

Maybe it's a bad rom? If it worked for a bit, maybe after it heats up a bit things start getting strange. I had a similar issue with my Mario bros.

Well I took another look and I think you might be on to something because if you look on my video there is a bit of garbage right above the ladder and looking on the Braze Tech site that same trash is on all the conditions of a bad 5C. I am new but it seems that it would be hard for a power supply to do that.

I'm going with a bad IC socket.

Edward

I'm with Ed on this one. Just because the board came from Eldorado games, doesn't mean it's flawless. The board may have worked long enough on the bench to test and sell, but developed problems later on.

Meter the chip legs to the bottom of the board - find out what's not making contact.
