I have a original Donkey Kong Cab and was wondering if I can re-wire it to a playchoice 10? What I'm really asking I guess is will the power supply and monitor be an easy match if I have a playchoice single monitor pcb and wiring.

Is there a different cab that would be a quicker or easier convert? Is just wiring a cab from scratch better as long as I have a nintendo monitor? Are there other issues to worry about like power supply?

Thanks for any help!

Anyone with any links to where I can go to find this info out? I have a DK, plus will be getting another DK project with a nintendo monitor and power supply. I have a playchoice 10 kit with the wiring.

Am I missing anything else in terms of "guts" that has to be nintendo specific?

Any help would be great! Wouldn't mind getting the stuff I need before I have to put everything away and start building my igloo!

if you have a nintendo pc-10 kit with wiring and assuming you have the control panel you should have no problem using the donkey kong or similar nintendo cabinet.

Thanks for replying.

I was more worried about the power supply for it.

Still waiting for the control panel to be shipped and should be getting a used playchoice (Single) power supply tomorrow.

Once everything is received, I'll see if I can put it all together. Just want to make sure I don't fry the board or anything. If there is anything to watch out for or what NOT to do, please let me know.

Thanks!

If you have a PC-10 kit everything is plug and play and you will be able to use your DK power supply.

You should really just pick up the DK to PC-10 conversion manual and save yourself a lot of guessing. What you are attempting to do was done thousands of times in the late 80's, so if you hook everything up right you should have no problems. Not knowing what type of harness you have and not knowing which power supply you plan to use makes it difficult to answer your questions. You mention a DK power supply, but then say you have a new PC-10 power supply on the way? The transformer, monitor and cabinet will all be compatible. Either power supply will work depending on which power harness you have with your wiring.

Sorry if I was all over the place.

I was going to convert my Donkey Kong (decided not too), but picked up a project DK with monitor and ISO, but there is no power supply. I have what is circled in the big circle only. The guy I bought everything off of said he hooked his DK board to the thing in the little circle. That threw me for a little bit of a loop, hence the questions.

I just bought a used PC10 Single Monitor Power supply that I hope to use with this. I have the PCB, wiring harness and populated CP.

I guess from your answers I'll be just fine with the used PC10 power supply. Maybe I'll post some pics of everything once I'm ready to connect it all and see if I'm doing all right.

Thanks for the input!!

Rob

Yeah, you have the transformer block. Both power supplies will plug right into it. The PC-10 wiring terminates in a 9 pin molex connector that plugs directly into the silver box power supply. There is also a wiring adapter that plugs into the 9 pin molex with a wafer connector on the other side that will plug into the big fat gold DK supply. I just restored a dedicated SM PC-10, and then put together a conversion PC-10 in a DK cab about a month later. I had one running off of the silver box, one off of the gold, and both worked fine.

Haven't got there yet, but will I need to get horizontal monitor mounts/brackets?

Not sure if the hardware is different or just the hole locations.

If yes, and someone is willing to sell, I'm buying.

Thanks, Rob
