History of my Donkey Kong machine:

I purchased it about 1-2 months ago. It is an original 2 board TGK4. The guy who sold it to me (in retrospect probably sold me a lemon) told me it was working fine. The only major issue I was aware of when I purchased it was a foldover on the left side of the screen. I posted here previously and the consensus was to start with a cap kit for the monitor board. I have not done any repairs on the machine yet.

Aside from the foldover, the machine worked fine for about 2 weeks and then rapidly detiorated over 2 days. At first while I was in middle of a pretty good game the bottom hammer on the barrel boards wouldn't display and then a few boards later, the machine suddenly reset while I was playing. Then for a while the machine would only let me play the first screen and then would go into a "barrel smashing" where the machine would behave like I was smashing a barrel with a hammer one after another (making the sound and pausing for a second like it usually does). Now when I boot the machine I get garbage. See attachment for screenshot.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Hank

I agree with Dok. but it sounds to me like you probably don't have a spare Z80 layin' around. I would start by removing the Z80 from it's socket and inspect it, clean it with a pencil eraser or similar. re-insert and try again. If that is not your prob then try checking your voltages. If OK then proceed to checking your ribbon cables/ interconnects. If still nothing then there could be other issues. My bet is after you reseat the CPU it'll work fine..
