Hello, first post after making a donation.

I just got an original 2 board set DK stand up machine, and noticed an issue on the Factory stage. The ladder that is supposed to be just to the right of the pink hat, is moved and located under the OIL drum where the fireballs spawn from. Here is a pic:

Anyone had a similar problem like this before?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Mike

Also wanted to mention that I have since fixed the color issue that I had when I took this pic, it was a dirty 2N chip on the video board.

I checked every chip and cleaned the legs of any that we're dirty. Turned machine back on, no luck.

Is this probably an issue with a corrupt EEPROM?

Usually graphics problems that only occur on certain stages or certain times is eprom related.
Looks like a couple ladders right above the drum are screwed up too.

To Riptor, the ladders above the oil drums are supposed to be like that, they retract and extend to make getting to the top harder.

Yeah, I suck at DK so I never make it past the 3rd or 4th board :)
I would pull and verify your eproms. Do you have a rom burner?

No I don't have a rom burner, but 3 of my roms (5a, 5c, and 5e) were replacement roms (they weren't original with the original stickers on them).

I did buy original roms (they're on their way) with correct code flashed on them, so I'm hoping that'll kill two birds with one stone...return my machine to all original parts on the board, and maybe fix the ladder issue too.

I am a complete newbie at this, so I am not sure how I would check the voltage on the board properly. Thank you for the replies!

Thanks MajorHavoc, read the while thread and wow it contained a lot of information. I understood some of it but a lot of it went over my head.

Being that absolutely everything works perfectly with my DK machine othe than that one ladder being misplaced, I feel it has to be a bit somewhere that got flipped or corrupted somehow...or was simply burned with incorrect code to begin with.

I'll lost back once I replace my 5a, 5c and 5e roms.

Any recommendations on who to send my board to to check all my roms for proper data flashed to them? If these new (old) roms don't work, that'll be the next thing logically for me to do. I don't have the tools or know-how to troubleshoot a 31 year old pcb...and I love my new game too much to risk damaging it with my ignorance.

If anyone needs some DK roms I have several sets sitting here that I pulled from some boards I installed D2K kits on. Its just the 4 program roms on the cpu but if you need the sound roms I can burn those.
Franklin, usually if you have a graphics issue that is consistent like that its a rom problem. This is especially true on nintendos since they didnt cover the eprom window so its not uncommon to see a rom with a bit or two dropped. Most of the time you can just rewrite the rom right over the old data without erasing them so long as your programming the same code to it.

Grats Mike! You came to KLOV for help but did a lot of the work yourself!

Where did you order the replacements from?

I got the roms from El Dorado games. He pulled originals with original stickers and ensured the proper code was programmed on them. Very happy with the service, and the roms were well packaged.
