I have both DK and DK Jr. uprights. Working on rebuilding the joysticks.

I noticed that the DK Jr joystick has metal/gold collar just beneath the ball. The DK joystick does not have this part. On the Nintendo diagram, this part is identified as 23-29.

Both ball tops appear to be the same size, and both have a set screw.

Could both be original? Anyone have any information on this particular part?

Thanks for your help!

I think what you are referring to is actually a rubber sleeve that has yellowed and hardened over the years. It probably was either cut off the other joy, or simply cracked off due to age. You could probably replace it with a similar size clear rubber tubing from a hardware store if you choose.

Yeah, like ranchdrsn said, the collar under the balltop is plastic that turns yellow due to age.

Thanks for setting me straight guys. Wow.. yet another reminder of how old these things are!
I was sure it was metal!

Thanks again. Now, on to the cleaning process you have detailed so well.

I have a NOS shaft I tried to get some tubing for and none of the hardware stores had any that fit.
I might try and get some close and see if I can press it on somehow.
Any one know the exact size of the shaft,I have no tool to measure it accurately.

The fact that it is japanese and metric will not make for a good match of any tubing you find stateside, unfortunately.
