Donkey Kong Control Panel Restore

Call me crazy but I'll scrap the cig burns with xacto knife then sand a bit with fine sandpaper then polish with Novis. I'd rather look at the scrap marks then the burns.

I don't mind the light cig burns. It shows that the game has been around a long time and that it once lived in an arcade. I am not a hippie saying it was the CPOs life destiny to be burned by the cigarette but I am saying that if I remove all of the cosmetic flaws then the game will not be an arcade rescue but a new furniture piece. I have many little ones who play the game and I don't want to have to worry if they are going to mess up the finish on all my hard work. I just want my game to look like it would do well in a location or in my gameroom. I couldn't place a perfect DK in a location...I would probably never get any good at the game either because I would baby the controls too much. Maybe I am too much of one kind of nerd and not enough of another kind.

Yeah I don't feel like my stuff has to be perfect either. I just want it to look pretty good. I think some people here would throw out the control panel's I use.

Got my MikesArcade order in today. I still wish I could've ordered the proper buttons when I made this order. I quess I will have to get the proper harware on this control panel and get the buttons in a little while...

Some slightly boring pictures to come (i.e. proper microswitches and joystick and guide plate).

Decided to work a little on my arcade while listening to the GameRoom Junkies Podcast.

Started with some MikesArcade parts...

First I reworked the proper parts into the joystick assembly. No more VS joystick on the Donkey Kong.

Now all I need to do is try the very fine sandpaper trick (maybe).

UPDATE: My original buttons came back from the doctor (Tighe) and look great. Here is a picture of them installed...
