I was reburning my donkey kong roms so that it will show attract mode in free play. I went to check if the rom was blank after running it through my UV eraser and it wasn't. So just for kicks I listed the information contained on rom 5A and in the hex editor the last lines of code say in ASCII "PROGRAM WE WOULD TEACH YOU. ***** TEL. TOKYO-JAPAN" then there's a phone number. How cool is this, apparently if people were messing with the roms then it looked like nintendo wanted to hire them. It's weird though cause it doesn't say Nintendo, it reads IKEGAMI CO. LIM.

Just wondering if anyone had seen this before.

Yes, the full text is:

CONGRATULATION !IF YOU ANALYSE DIFFICULT THIS PROGRAM,WE WOULD TEACH YOU.*****TEL.TOKYO-JAPAN 044(244)2151 EXTENTION 304 SYSTEM DESIGN IKEGAMI CO. LIM.

Yeah, rather old news. But the whole Ikegami thing got me thinking, and evidently not just me : http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=2&cId=3182436 And this link goes on about Ikegami Tsushinki's involvement with N*'s titles : http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Company:Ikegami_Tsushinki

Interesting thoughts on why the actual REAL Donkey Kong (and other true arcade ports) never came to console, until now, kind of... Not really though.

That is really interesting.

Wow! That's REALLY interesting. I have always wondered why they are not cashing in on their past. Could that be why they are allowing games like D2K to exist? Could it be that they have no rights to go after D2K??? Hmmmmm.....

"Donkey Kong ROMS free play and attract" are those codes available for down load so I can burn some for my game?

I'm no lawyer but it sure looks that way.

This is all interesting. This should be the 30th anniversary of the Donkey Kong arcade game. I was wondering why we haven't heard much about that or anything special from Nintendo about it. Perhaps this is why?

Cool. So if the ITC symobol is in the tileset for Donkey Kong, is it used in the game, and if so, where?

I believe that the version of DK in Donkey Kong 64 is the arcade ROMs emulated. Nintendo settled a lawsuit with Ikegami years ago, and now can use the code all they want.
