Just picked up a dk tabletop(4 board version), it will turn on just fine then i see this.

dk turns to drop a barrel and mario kind of falls from the bottom to the top, then it freezes.

I swaped the z80 with a know good one still the same.
i cleaned the board and reseated all the chips everything looks to be in good condition.
The pcb wasn't to dirty before i cleaned it. it looks mint now.

The best resource I have found (actually I didn't find it, somebody on here pointed it out :D) is http://www.brasington.org/arcade/tech/dk/.

Based on the troubleshooting screens, it looks like you have a bad 5E ROM chip, which would actually be the 5F ROM chip on the cocktail 4 board set.

No guarantees, but it is a place to start.

Definitely an issue accesing one or more of the program ROMs. Could be a graphics issue as well but as a first step I would try to get the game to play without resetting.

I noticed a socket with no chip under the sound board. possibly its missing?

Repair log : J1NG Donkey Kong 4 boardset repair

Board sent in for repair.
Verified all eproms in romident and hex workshop compare. All eproms were good no bad data. So this ruled out the 5F rom which yellowdog had suggested and all the sockets were making contact too. Started studying the characteristics of the boot up. Figured I'd start with the ram so after spending some time on this and tracing the Address lines found that the 2114 ram at position 5M on the video board was not working correct.
Solution replaced the 2114 ram at 5M on the Video board fixed the problem. Been playing the game to test it. The first game I played I got past the cement factory before I died with no glitches.

In case you see this again Bad 5M ram on the Video board of a 4 boardset

Now all we need is a monitor guy in Manassas and we can rule the world. Wait there is one, Buffett.
