It really annoys me, when Donkey Kong jumps on the girders, the boom makes the coin mechs rattle in the coin door. If I open the door and tap the mechs by the switch I can make it make the same sound.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the mechs, I am just annoyed my the rattling.

Has anyone done anything to stop the rattling short of turning the volume down too low or jamming something inside the mech?

you sure its not loose? I have never heard this happen

No it is right, it is inside the mech, and all 4 mechs I have make the same noise. I think that the speaker is closer on a cabaret and that is the problem. I have everything on free play anyway so I could just put a piece of paper inside.

I was also thinking about putting some sheet foam rubber between the speaker and the mechs.

If you want the mechs to function properly then there is nothing that can be done about that. The part that is probably making the most noise is the metal flap that is the last barrier before the coin drops into the coin box. There are a few other free-moving metal pieces inside the mechs as well. These are security features to prevent the use of slugs and strings and other things people could use to rip off a free game.

And it might just be the mech itself vibrating. If I knock on my cab in a few places, I can make the mech audibly vibrate. I can see the deep base in a speaker causing it.

My DK doesn't do it, or at least I have never noticed it. Do you know what specifically is rattly? If so, take some pictures and I can look at mine and see what is different.

I will add that mine is a cocktail, and the mech is right next to the speaker. Speaker is on left side of cab, mech is on left front. I know Tighe's is a cabaret, but I don't remember where the speaker is located on it in relation to the mechs.

I think this is all about the cabaret cabinet, folks. My cabaret does they exact same thing.

But it doesn't bother me much; I chalk it up to being a design quirk. ;)

The mech is right next to the speaker, and it is DK's boom that shakes it. As Nerdtendo said this is normal for the mechs to make that rattle, but on a full size cabinet the speaker is way far away from the mechs.

I ended up putting some foam between the mech and the speaker and it solved the problem. I put way more than necessary, I will cut a nice piece and put it between.
