Donkey Kong Bottom Hammer Strategy

Holy Cow!

It never dawned on me to come back down the ladders and jump the same barrel combos multiple times.

I just got my DK on Thursday.

So far I can make it to the barrel screen of Level 4 with about 58,000 points.

I guess that's pretty good for 3 days of playing.

I see now though that there are LOTS more points for the taking on these screens.

Good stuff.

I don't own a DK, but I was playing the emulated version in DK64 and I scored $200K something on it. DK is really hard, but no where as hard as Popeye.

$200K? Man, you could buy a bunch of DK cabs with that. ;)

I forgot there was an emulated version on DK64. I don't remember how accurate it is to the original.

Popeye is a difficult game. And short. While I owned it, I was able to get through all three levels a couple of times and that was enough for me. Doesn't have as much of a replay value to me as DK.

LOL I always put in a '$' whenever I put in a 'K" for some odd reason. I think it is pretty close, although the sound is muffled, and the player's reserve marios are above the level display. It might be easier.

I haven't played Popeye on a cab since the 80s, on a cocktail version at the local Dairy Queen. I envision myself someday having a dedicated Popeye.

shameless 3rd elevator video plug:

If your not up to the 3rd elevator screen yet, I would recommend burning through the levels until you get to LVL5 then practice your bottom hammer techniques. Its good practice for the boards before you get that high, and once you have them down you can apply what you learned back to the beginning levels. Also, the barrel control is more consistent after lvl 4.

My $0.02, everything else posted is good info too.

I average around 280-300k a game. I dont touch the bottom hammer. Unless you can get to the last levels of the game, and are seriously point pressing, it's not worth it. If you race to to the top, you get a higher Bonus, and leave yourself open to less wild barrels.

Pie factory: Stay to the left of the bottom price till all fire balls are out. Go up the right side. Pass on all the hammers here.
