Below is a pic of the initials of some @#$%! in a Dk monitor cover.

Since I'm going for the "new" look should I give up all hope of reparation and just search for a repro?

Thanks.

I guess it wouldn't make it any worse, but how would you color match?

I really need to do a tutorial on this
as its much easier to do and show vs trying to type it out in a post or email.

right ShanMan?

matter of fact I thnk my DK bezel needs a little touch up work.

the nice thing about using the testers is if you dont get a good match you can simply wipe it back off without effecting the screened inks and try again.

Youll need basic 3 colors to do this one
a Red*(yellow shade) , a red/shade Yellow (caution yellow) and white.
youll mix the yellow and alttle red to get your light orange
If you stick with the basics you should be able to mix and match any color under the rainbow.
then once dry follow up with some novus to help smooth and blend

*Red falls into 2 categories yellow/shade and blue/shade
you may not see it untill you put them togeher and then notice it
unless of course your color blind... I mean color impaired...I mean color challenged :D

Lol. I still need to get started with this. I think I have enough info to go on but I'd still love to watch a tutorial vid. Get on it Rich! :D Seriously, this would be such a useful skill to help people develop.

Ditto. And while you're at it, how about one for Ms. Pac-man? :D

(Provided this can work on the bezels and marquees).

I already have DK side-art, but to show my appreciation I'd even get a DK marquee, instruction sticker, and bezel decal from you to complete the set. :D (Excellent work you did for Richie Knucklez).

I wrote customer service stating I had to do some color matching and I asked if there was a written or video tutorial on how to use their paints.

I get back, "I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean". :(

Is this for you to keep? Or are you going to sell it?

The reason I ask is because anyone purchasing a game that would obsess over details as small as this being perfect would probably notice the 'touch up' and cry foul anyway. Just move on and find a better bezel.

If it's for you, then it's really a matter of whether or not you'd be OK with the touch up job. How anal retentive are you about your cabinet restores?

If I were a perfectionist, I'd just keep hunting for a better bezel.

I'm still looking for paint code information from anyone who has done touch-ups.

(Though I'm sure ink codes would probably be better).

Thanks.

I attempted to failing to navigate Testors screwed up telephone answering system, last night sent another e-mail to Testors inquiring about any kind of book for color matching and the following is what I just got back.

This is an automatic response to the e-mail you just sent, please do not respond to this e-mail.
We are closed for the Holiday Thursday November 24th and Friday November 25th.
Due to the Holiday season, shortened work days and staff, there will be a delay in responding to your e-mail. We will make every attempt to answer as soon as we can.
You can check our website at www.testors.com for modeling tips, technical information and to place orders.

Thank you for your patience.

This morning I got through and was told that their catalog lists all their paints. So when I inquired about getting one I was told that they wouldn't have a catalog until June 2012.

Obviously there are a bunch of "geniuses" running this company. :banghead:

Sunday I went to Home Depot, and even though I figured it would be a long shot I brought the DK bezel with me to see if I could get the colors matched or close. First, I was told that there wasn't a patch of color on the bezel big enough for them to color match. So just to see how close I could get I attempted to color match from the swatches they have on the wall.

Question: Does anyone know what kind of ink was used on the original bezels. The artwork was obviously placed on the front. (And if you look closely it looks almost as though they used stickers).

OK I will be start posting a tutorial this weekend.
I went and got most of the basic stuff youll need that you can find at your local hobby store.

But First ALL orginal Arcade Art was screened with Solvent Inks.
This makes touch ups with the same type of ink VERY hard as it will usally "attack" the orginal screened art.
Solvent inks were used on all Plastics, plex, Polycarbonates, and Vinyls.
Enamel inks were used on All glass and wood surfaces.
Enamel is easier to work with here as it wont attack either and can easily be wiped off while trying to match up your colors.

you really wont find anything to match up for paints like using the paint cards and even if you did you wont need a qt or gal to touchup a few scratches :D

Did you find a list of avaiable colors through Testors?
just curious I was suprized not to find a couple of colors at the store I went to :(

Those lazy bastards lied to you. My local Home Depot color matched my Wizard of Wor paint by matching the "sun" on the control panel artwork. It's easily smaller than the orange on your bezel... close to the red.

I was going to say the same thing.
not sure if all HDs use the same type of color spectometer but they can usally read pretty small areas.
But really a trip not nessasary
stay tooned....

OK I finally started putting this together.
Theres really ALOT of ground to cover since you never know what is really needed "to know"
So will try to cover everything about color matching in general specifficly for touchup purposes. Both with and without Pantone references.
Its a work in progress blog and will be adding some vid clips soon.

anyone interrested should post questions here or there and Ill do my best to include and answer them
and as I continue to mix and test Ill post cross referenced Testor numbers

+1. My HD has been able to match anything I bring to them almost 100% and some from very small samples. I would guess it depends if they have a newer spectrometer or not.
