So I picked up a working board set from ebay for really cheap.

It works, but I am getting garbled audio which is best to just show in this video:

I tried another speaker but same problem. I plan to bypass the.monitor's audio amp tonight. I figure that is the problem since my other board with its issues also had audio like that.

My cocktail sounds like that, but it's intermittent. Sometimes it's nice and loud, othertimes, muffled like how that one sounds.

Yuck! I hate that, I can't even hear the jump sound! It is going to be fixed! I am figuring I need to recap the audio amp on the monitor. I will know more once I plug directly into the audio board and see if the audio is garbled there.

I have 2 4-board PCB's, one that came in my cocktail and one I got later that only partially works. I swapped the audio boards between the two with no change, so I'm assuming it's the audio amp on the monitor. I just need to sit down some day and do a cap kit (monitor needs it too). Never done one before, so I'm in no hurry to tear it apart ;)

I hear you there! Last one I did I made a crappy monitor into a non working monitor! And I am positive I did everything correctly!

If the amp board(located on monitor) has not been rebuilt I would start there. It usually has a cap or two with legs rotted off. The missing jump sound is likely a seperate issue but the muddy sound it probably caused by caps on the amp board. If you have a spare 8035 you can swap that in then see if you have your jump sound.

If it is a 4 board, start by checking the cable that connects the sound board to the CPU board and reflow/touch up the solder on all the caps on the audio board.

I've capped a couple of those audio PCBs and it never correct the audio hum problem those games are known for.

A big problem is where the audio amp is located on those Sanyo 20EZs. A lot of guys have corrected it by using an adaptor with an audio amp plugged into a JAMMA harness.

I have an amp I can use to test the audio right off the board, and if that fixes the problem I will either rebuild the original amp, or replace it with a nicer one, preferably one that I don't have to remove the bezel to adjust the volume!

That's the one nice thing about the cocktail...all the controls are right next to the monitor frame when you open up the lid :D Only one you can't see from the top is the one pot on the audio board of the PCB stack.

Cool, glad it worked out. Sounds like that's what I need to do on mine then too.

JSYK, the problem was pretty obvious when I removed the audio amp and took a look at it:

I decided to pull mine out of my cocktail and check it out...no bulged caps on mine, but I think I'll try and replace them while I got it out. Wasn't as bad of a job as I thought it would be. 4 plugs and 4 screws, and it pulled out very easily (since it has a 13", it weighs alot less than a 19" monitor ;) )

I need to decide if I am going to.order the cap kit from Bob Roberts or buy Panasonic caps from mouser. I also need to figure out what model monitor this cabaret has. It most likely is a Sanyo, but I can't tell until I pull it.
