Donkey Kong Arcade Game-Special Edition VERY RARE!

LOL... I don't think there's too much credibility, posting a blurry picture right next to one of those craptastic Midway Home Multigames. And I've gotta question the credibility of the article he linked to: http://www.helium.com/items/1795202-rare-arcade-video-games ... Q*Bert is the #1 rarest arcade game???

DogP

from his link
"This rare arcade video game in red, not blue, is a highly coveted version of the 1980 Donkey Kong arcade game. It is a special edition in the Donkey Kong series and even includes an extra level that was not incorporated into the exterior blue-painted version."

It's entirely false to insinuate that the foundry level has something to do with a red dk. And, the funny thing is, the fact the he has the foundry level on his game means he's not even running the original rom with the ladder cheat. You can see his screen says "1981 Nintendo of America" and Nintendo wasn't using trademark identifier until later.

When this arcade game has non-peeling decals, undamaged glass, a clear monitor, and properly functioning controls, you have found a rare treat.

Original side art would be rare, but it sounds like he doesn't know enough to determine if the side art is original or if its repro. DK doesn't have any glass. A clear monitor just means its been capped and that's not special. And since Nintendo controls are pretty much unbreakable (aside from the buttons, which are replacable) the functioning controls is nothing special.

But whatever, my problem with the auction is that this guy obviously knows there is something fishy with his information but he continues to cover his ears and falsly advertise the game as something its not saysing "well I don't know myself and I don't have the time to actually find out if I'm spouting lies but that's what someone told me so I have to believe it." It even looks like this guy's poor information has gotten parroted by this obviously uninformed lady at helium.

Then he keeps posting these blurry pictures. If it was in perfect shape, with original art, you'd think he'd show that. If he did, he could probably get $1400 for it. But even with the blurry pictures you can tell he's got a repo bezel and his 1 and 2 player buttons are not original.

His attidude is a givaway of a dishonest or seriously disillusioned seller too. Someone has obviously told him his information is wrong and instead of being like "I better check this out so I don't misrepresent what I'm selling" he's sticking to his story. "Someone told me something and I HAVE to believe it because I heard it with my own ears, and I can't be bothered to verify anything because I'm not a nerd" Assuming someone actually did tell him he's got something special, he's now justifying his own dishonesty by parroting someone who was not honest with him. Pretty freaking common.

I like this part, too....

I am simply stating what I have been shown and told

That's right folks, feel free to make any claims you want in your auction as long as you were told it was true.

Here is the guys response to my response....

You have such an important life sitting around berating people about their ebay listings. I would rather raise money and help people less fortunate. I'll bet you're the life of the party. A real chick magnet. Did mommy and daddy not show you enough affection? You're a real tough guy on the computer, and not worth my time. Would love to know where I could answer your questions in person, but for now I would rather torment you and be able to give you something to do by complaining about an ebay listing

I mean, you are trying to keep innocent buyers from getting defrauded. You're not getting paid for it. Sounds like charity to me!

I've seen a few sellers on eBay post rants about "geeks" berating their auctions before.

It's pretty simple: you see a rant like that, you don't bid on the item. Trust the geeks.

And, funny enough, the sellers who post those rants never have 100% feedback. ;)

this moron has sold this thing a couple times then went back on it. The first two times were through bidding and I believe it went around 7-800 both times. Although he had some odd fyi added into the original listing saying if he didn't get as much as he wanted for it he was going to pull the listing. It did state the ridiculous price he paid for it, and had the same shitty out of focus picture. Both times that I saw machine listed the listings finished. Two people both won that thing and he backed out on them because he didn't feel like it got its true value. And now the dumbass has finally figured out that you can list stuff on ebay and just have a buy it now and best offer. I think his feedback rating says it all.
