My donkey kong (that was working just fine) has developed a sound issue
The game still plays just fine - but some sounds are missing... not sure why.
But some sounds I know are missing are...

the music as donkey kong climbs up at the start of the game
then when he shows his teeth that EHHH EHHH EHHH sound
The How High can you get music
The 2nd part of the jump sound effect (when a jump is completed for points)
the hammer in use sound effect

A lot of the other sounds are still there... anyone know what to check?

I just had this problem on my two board set and the problem was one of the chips socket was cracked and the chip wasnt making contact anymore. I replaced the socket and reseated the chip and the sounds returned. I am not sure which one it is on the 4 board set though. I guess check the chips on the sound board and clean/reseat them and see if that works.

Remove the sound pcb ( the small one) and visually inspect the connections, look for broken components, and also remove and clean all of the socketed chips. It sounds like one of the PROMs has a bad connection or went bad. Be careful when removing them. Try to pull them straight out. After cleaning them, Reseat them, put the boardset back together and plug it back in. Then try it out and see what happens. Then report back.
