Donkey Kong 2 What are my options?

I am looking to make a DK 2, but need a board set what are my options. I would like to get a newer jamma board and not an add on card to an original DK board if possible, but if only option could fix up a DK board for this purpose. Also would need art files or a place to purchase art if not sold out. Last I heard the new Arcade SD does not support DK II yet. I might just wait for that but dont want to wait years for it to be done.

If you dont want to post the info please PM me.

from memory DKII was available in it's original form which was an eprom added on to the high score save kit which runs on an original DK board set.

It was also available on the original arcade shop board which is now discontinued

I believe someone put it in MAME although I don't think the creator of DK II was the one who did so. I don't believe he planned for it to be in MAME. At least not when or how it ended up there.

Pretty sure those were the only options. I can't see a reason why an agreement to add it to the new board that phoenix arcade sells will not be made. Not sure on the time frame for this though.

I have one in my collection and love it - I feel it was done really well - I also have art set #13 I believe from TOG. Mine is a 2 board set

Of course not, he doesn't want to see his revenue diminish.
But by selling these hacked roms to the public,
it was only a matter of time before someone dumped them.

Be sure DKII is what you want, it's neat but it's also not much fun.
It's a real bitchy game to play.

it plays well on misfitmame.
the timing strategies were too tedious for me and i love dk and dk jr.

just a vinyl print that youd apply to the wood the lay a plexi over it.
though I could do a cpo-esq laminate if you were to put it on say a DK3 type of panel.
hadnt considered that option untill now and will add that as an option to the site.

dk2

i love mine!! #98. i also like the fact the there are only 100 of the original kits. these in my opinion will one day be as collectable as the red dk.

dk2

a pic of #98 ..the red stick has since been replaced.

Yea I was more thinking like a DK3 type.

I've had a lot of fun with it. It's not a game for the unskilled player though. You really need to have some skill at Donkey Kong to be able to get anywhere in D2K. The difficulty level is about perfect for me, but I play a lot.

I added the DKII kit to my DK. I like the game but play DK more often. Being able to toggle between the two games in one cab sold me on it. DKII added the second game and HS save kit in fail swoop to my existing DK. I don't like DKII enough to dedicate a cab to it though.

...and Steve isn't selling the licenses for them anymore I do believe...

Weren't you selling yours?

I have it in my Cabaret, love the game, and for the price it makes sense to use an original board with the kit.

Where is the home site for DK2, Is it compatible with the 4 board version? I have a working set of both and wanted to know if I should order two kits.

Although I'm not sure you can get the kit through the site. This might just be info on it and you buy it elsewhere.

From what I understand it can work on a 4 board set but the kit plugs into the socket for the z80 and then the z80 is placed in the pcb for the kit. On the 4 board set I believe the z80 is soldered to the board so the best option is to cut out the old z80, desolder the remaining chip legs from where the z80 used to be, solder the correct pin number socket where the was then install the kit. Of course you will also need to buy a new z80 to replace the one you cut out. I suppose if you're really good at desoldering you might be able to remove the z80 rather than cutting it out but usually with multi pin IC's like that you run a good risk of lifting a pad when trying to desolder.
