I have had a Battlezone for about 4 years now... when I got it it was not working right... and to this day... it still doesn't work "right" all the time. When it does work... it works great... when it doesn't work... it's a pain in my ass. I've traced it down to a cold solder joint or SOMETHING close to the interconnect. I've replaced the connector... re-pinned (albeit quite amateurishly) both boards... the problem remains. I lose video... monitor's spot protector goes on... tap on/around the interconnect and the video will come up... for a short time.

I've re-flowed ...re-soldered... re-everyfreakinthing possible and... no go. Damn thing will work sometimes... not work sometimes.

I am sure anyone with real skills fixing these things could get this up and running full time lickity-split.

Anyone willing to trade me? This boardset plus a few bucks for this boardset? If you're willing to put an end to a 4 year nightmare, please PM me.

>help<

:)

Thanks!

To be clear... I'm looking to maybe trade my PAIN IN THE ASS boardset for a working boardset... not a whole other game.

:D

you need to replace the chip sockets near that connector.

I chased chip sockets on min for about a year before i gave up and sold it broken.

I should have just replaced them ALL and got it over with.

I have the same problem with mine. Every time I turn on the game I have to jiggle the upper left side of the interconnect harness by sticking my hand through the coin door and reseating it (I replaced the original interconnect with a harness made up of more than one connector so that is how I was able to determine exactly where the issue was).

I never thought it was chip sockets. I have been meaning to reflow the solder there but have not gotten to it yet. Might be nearby chip sockets...I will try to fix mine and report back. Another issue could be a faulty interconnect. The only way to see if it is not the interconnect is to put it in another working Game and see it it holds up. A new one could still have issues..

I have come to the conclusion that having a back up board set for certain games is a great idea.

Hum I have never seen this problem.. all 3 of my Battlezones work perfect.. They dont like to be moved around, and sometimes I have to reseat the interconnect..

Have you tried a different working boardset in the machine? If someone local has one I would try that first...

...Tighe. I appreciate the suggestion... but I have a BRAND NEW interconnect...

:)

Oh I missed that part. Well it wouldn't hurt to pull the chips and reseat them with a little Deoxit and put some in the edge connector (if it has one)

The stuff is magic, and that is putting it mildly. Especially anywhere there is intermittent contract.

Welp, i've now managed to fully break whatever was half broken before. No video. I can "hear" the vectors via the audio... game still plays blind as before... now just no video when tapping the different areas of the two boards.

>sigh<

What about the edge connectors for the boards ? Did you replace the edge connectors on the harness ? Also curious what your +5 is at on your AR-2, main board, and aux board , see how much of a voltage drop you have by the time it gets to the aux board.

Do you still have the old interconnect? Put it back on and see if it makes any difference.

I haven't had my BZ in a few years. But I had almost the same problem with mine. It would work for awhile then no video. Turns out, I had a pin go bad on one of the harness plugs to the monitor. When I would get in there to mess with it, I would hit it, and fix the connection (or sometimes not) and not know it. It drove me nuts. Just a idea...

Yeah... I have the old interconnect... no change.

Edge connectors have been cleaned...

My best guess... there is a cold solder joint or broken trace somewhere. Flexing/tapping the board fixed it before... no more...

Someone with the proper diagnostic tools needs to start following traces...

:(

ohmmeter on beep setting. One end at the interconnect pin, the other just follow each trace from the pin and check for continuity.

Dont give up!! I wish i would have kept mine!
