Does this marquee look like it's in "Good Shape"?

OK, so I bought this marquee off eBay a while ago. I suppose I should have known better than to bid on a marquee auction that just has one blurry low-res pic... but I needed a decent Phoenix marquee, and the description claimed it was in "Good Shape". Here's what I got:

Upon receiving it I sent an email to the seller expressing my disappointment. No reply.
Oh well, $16.50 down the shitter.... Lesson learned I suppose. Actually, the real lesson is probably "don't drink and eBay"... as I had a few beers in me when I bid. Normally I'd know better.

It's rectangular - that's a good shape.

Seriously, the answer is no. That is not what a reasonable person would call "good shape".

I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a Phoenix marquee in "good" shape. They all look like ass.

That does suck though. Did he swap marquees from the one posted in the auction?

Its not cracked in half, what more do you want? Usually when I buy a marquee off ebay it comes to me in pieces.

Nope, that is not in good shape at all. Good shape would mean just few scratches, mostly near the sides. Ones that could be easily touched up if needed.

True, a nice Phoenix marquee is hard to come by. I did find an old repro... no idea who made it. The quality is mediocre, but at least it doesn't have big holes in it!

No, he didn't do a swap. If I look closely at the auction pic I can match up a couple details.

I wouldn't set a drink on it and use it for a coaster, for fear of it scratching the glass. Bummer, man.

I second that. I have a Pheonix and mine is in good shape I would love an NOS one. We should start a thread with pictures of our marquees and see who has the nicest one. By the way if anyone has an NOS one I'll buy it :)

I wont buy a marquee on eBay unless it is backlit which is rare for a seller to do. You're pretty much asking to get screwed. That one is know to be hard to find in decent condition. I picked up a slightly flawed repro from mikesarcade and am pretty happy with it.

When I hear "good" shape, I picture the next step down from "mint", "excellent", and "very good" so that is exactly what I would expect especially on eBay.

Exactly - almost. Here is how I rate them:

NOS - never used. Perfect
Minty - Used but almost no marks anywhere.
Excellent - Used, a couple small scratches, but hardly noticeable.
Very Good - Used. A few noticeable scratches, but most people won't care.
Good - Used. Quite a few scratches, but still useable.
Useable - Used. Has some bare spots where light shines through, but better than nothing.
Bad - Used. Broken and can't be used.

Considering how hard a buddy of mine has found it to get a Phoenix marquee, I'm not surprised you paid what you did. Sorry it didn't work out. Paint the back white and hang it on the wall...

I have a NOS one!

Only issue, is it is larger than the original and would need to be cut down. The cut down size would be perfect as they only added additional black to the edges. Not sure why?

The protective paper was a pain to get off. Here is an "in progress shot"

I don't think I took it all the way off once I realized the size was different. I picked up a good repro so I didn't bother sizing this one to fit.
