I converted an old arkanoid cocktail into a 60-in-1 and the cabinet has a real loud case fan wired directly to the 120AC - I was going to replace it with a little 12v 80mm PC case fan because it is so loud - but im thinking - does this thing even need a fan now? The arkanoid board might have generated some heat but this little 60-in-1 card doesn't get very hot -should I just disconnect it and not worry about it?

thoughts - opinions - suggestions...

If it had a fan, I definatly would replace it. I would ditch the 80mm and go with a 120mm PC fan, Noctua for example makes deathly silent fans, but they're a premium compared to regular fans, about 20 -30$ I believe. I have a couple in my PC. Noctua also has 140mm fans if you want to go a bit bigger.

Anyone have opinions as to which is better as far as fan direction?

Should the fan be pulling air in or pushing it out?

I don't think it really matters when you only have one fan... ideally, you have one that pulls air in and one that pushes it out.

With one fan.... you could have it pulling air in, but if the room is warm then you're just circulating hot air. I don't think there's really an advantage to one or the other in this situation.

Unfortunately, it really depends on how the air flow is inside the thing and where the openings are. I'd go with whatever the current direction, as that's most likely to work out well.

In most cases it will be more efficient when you pull air in. Cocktails usually have the fan located down low. The cool air comes in and will displace the hot air out the top of the cab where there should be a vent or some area for air to flow out.
