The better part of my life ... at least the last 25 years of it ... has been dedicated to improving my lifetime best Donkey Kong score. OK ... so I am exaggerating a bit here, but you get it, right?
Recently, the threshold I have been pushing toward is the 200k barrier.
Well, last Friday night I was playing DK with my brother at the local Dave and Buster's and it finally happened. I threw down my lifetime personal best score of 218k! I was pumped.
Then it hit me. My score was achieved on one of those DK/DK Junior/Mario Brothers Combo machines with the 25" inch monitor. Clearly the hardware/software combination in this machine is not equal to my dedicated Dk machine at home. Is it possible that it was *gasp* set to some kind of "easy" setting?
Does anyone know how these machines differ from the original hardware/software to help me understand if my score was truly "legit"?
This post is merely fodder for discussion. I really don't take myself this seriously and realize that there are hundreds of players that can score more than 200k with their first man.
Finally, I plan to spend the entire weekend with my dedicated DK machine in an attempt to break the 225k barrier, thereby rendering this entire post moot.

P.S. Playing DK on that machine was a little strange anyway, so I am surprised that I scored as well as I did.
The monitor, aside from seeming freakishly large, was tilted at a very different angle than what I am used to on my dedicated machine at home.
Also, the controls are set up to mirror Mario Brothers so my hands were very close together and far to the left hand side of the control panel while playing. It certainly didn't feel right.
