Does anyone use rapid tac when applying a cpo?

I have prepped my panel and I am ready to apply a nos cpo tomorrow. I was considering spraying some 3M adhesive on the back of the cpo and using rapid tac to slippedy-slide it into place.

Any opinions on this process?

I use it and like it. If your CP has a bend in it like a metal CP sometimes the RapidTac/wet method can make it a little harder to adhere until you get it all really squeezed out. Otherwise I think it's a great method for people like me that break out into a cold sweat every time I have to apply artwork.

I had a nightmare experience with a Sunset Riders CPO and Super 77. Seemed like a good idea at the time (who doesn't want extra sticky?), but it never dried and the CPO kept bubbling up.

Which adhesive are you thinking of using? I've got an NOS CPO I need to apply as well. I've read comments on KLOV that most adhesives will react poorly over time with the CPO material.

I only work with new reproduction overlays and have never needed any other adhesives. I install overlays "dry".

Yep, me too.

Me too, up to this point. There any many instances where the repro is different enough from nos that the nos is highly preferred. I've always installed cpo's dry. My zoo keeper sideart install went fairly smooth thanks to rapid tac, so I was looking for opinions on the topic.

Any recommendations on applying a NOS CPO with 35 year-old glue?

I've done several nos tron cpo installs. I usually get them clipped to the cp for a few days so it gets used to the shape.

I have used a hair dryer to help in the process of the nos cpo taking it's new shape. (Exercise caution if you decide to get heat anywhere near a 35 year old piece of art.)

Thanks. I'm wondering if I need to augment that old glue. Have you had luck using your method with just the original adhesive?

I may be wrong but I thought the point of rapid tac is that it allows you to adjust/smooth out the overlay if there is an issue with it not being on correctly/bubbles, without damaging the overlay. The rapid tac evaporates eventually, leaving a solid bond between the CPO glue and the control panel. At least this was my understanding of it. I have never used it but I have some CPOs to do and was thinking of using it. I also need to do all the artwork on two Paperboys and was thinking of using it.

depends on the cpo

Some I could just tell it wasn't sticky enough so I had to add some 3M adhesive to make sure it was going to hold.
