Hey guys - just bought a Lucky & Wild machine. Haven't picked it up yet, but according to the seller, it all works except the guns.

I figured that getting some positional gun replacements would be too big of a deal, but I haven't been able to find anyone selling them - just light guns. Anybody know where I might be able to find some replacements? I'd appreciate the help!

Yeah, probably wiring. That game uses two potentiometers per gun. There's not much to it. Of course, you could be looking at a board input problem too. Buying a whole new gun would be a big waste of money and the only thing that'd be truly useful is that it would come with two new pots, which aren't very expensive.

Appreciate the help, guys. Is there any place I can find a 'primer' on positional gun repair? It's pretty alien to me, so I just want to study up on some hopefully visual examples.

Search for the owner's manual of your game. If you can find it, it might have diagrams showing a breakdown of all the parts on the Lucky & Wild cabinet.

I learned from other techs many years ago, not sure what's online. You have 2 variable resistors (potentiometers "pots") one for X-axis, one for Y-axis, on each gun. This is just like any analog joystick ever made, it's just been topped with a gun replica and twists left to right instead of acting as a lever.

There are 3 wires connected to each. A +5VDC (often red), a ground (often black) and the signal/output (often white). Ensure there is good voltage going to it, check continuity back to the main PCB with a multimeter (very fundamental troubleshooting skill) and put the game in Test Mode, go to Input test and see if there is any values registering. It's very odd that all four of these inputs are dead. It could lead to a larger issue (such as an input chip). However...

VERY IMPORTANT: NAMCO games like this (Steel Gunner, etc) must be INITIALIZED for these inputs to work. HOLD SERVICE button and flip on the TEST switch. You will see a display confirming that you have achieved this. Heck, this ALONE could be what you need to do.

I wonder if it's just the microswitch for the triggers that needs replacing. When will you be picking this up to start troubleshooting it anyway?

I'm hoping someone might be able to respond to this old thread. I have an Operation Thunderbolt cabinet and both guns started shooting off screen to the upper right. I checked the potentiometers and they are all getting 5v and there appears to be no wiring harness issues that I can detect when checking the X Y axis output. I put the board into test mode to see if calibrating can help, but the guns are pointing just off screen and will not aim correctly to calibrate. Would this have to be an issue with chip that converts the input signal from the potentiometers or is there something I can look at?
