Does anyone repair D9200 Chasis?

I have one that makes and awful whine and the screen is just seems out of sync. I am looking for a price on repairing these as I might be coming into contact with a lot of them from a warehouse raid.

They are all 27"

I also don't have the remote board for this one so I don't even know if it can be adjusted after it is fixed.

Thanks.

Well I took some advice and removed one of the syncs so I have a picture now. The flyback still sounds awful and I will try to find the remote board when I got back to the warehouse next week.

right now the image is only on about 3/4 of the screen the bottom of the game screen is about 3 inches up form the bottom and the bottom of the game screen has some pretty bad pincushion. I assume the remote screen has settings for this?

The whining sound might be a flyback, or it could be the horizontal oscillator stressing out. Try doing a factory reset (google it here) and maybe replace all the caps...

Ok, so I am just sitting here and the monitor turned it self off and on again real quick.

Sorry for the many posts, just trying to record stuff as it happens.

OK, I don't have the remote board though so I am not sure I can do a factory reset.

now it just started flipping out, on/off, on/off, out of sync, whining, yelling, on/off.

:)

You don't have the remote board?

SHUT IT OFF!

And don't turn it back on until you do. It will never work until the remote board is on, and the monitor may die from oscillator stress with it powered on with no remote board...

Got it, it is shut off now.

I tapped on the flyback and each time I did it would shut off/on (This was before you warning).

So why is the remote board so important? I figured it was just to make adjustments, but I guess not.

Where does it plug in anyway? I see one little plug labled w102?

Thanks for the quick reply before i blew it up. Even though it was free, I still would like it to not blow up :).

One of the IC's is connected to the remote board. The chip sends a signal to the remote which comes back to the IC. When you push a button on the remote, it changes what is detected and either enters the menu or makes changes. With it disconnected, the circuit is incomplete and the IC is stressed. Continual stress will kill the IC - and your monitor. Plus, with it stressed, it doesn't operate properly, hence your screwed up picture...

Ok, thanks man.

I am hoping someone has a spare (I posted in the wanted section). Any idea if you can buy these direct from WG?

Or if no one fixes them, I have been looking at the trouble shooting sheet.

Which issue does this picture look like?

Also, what usually makes the awful whining sound, sounds like it could be coming from the flyback?

For starters you have a vertical deflection problem. Could be as simple
as caps but could be more.

Those monitors are notorious for cascade failures. One thing craps out
then another, and another and so on.

Cap Kit!!

The symptom is vertical related and common to me.I always replace the ic too....
but you need to replace all if not most caps, i and mod have a preferred cap list.
but if you like you can replace all of them. Then test again,Good Luck!

This might be why the warehouse we raided has at least 50 of them on shelves, in boxes or on the floor. All marked as not working LOL.

Well at least one was free. I fixed the initial problem by removing one of the sync (i can't remember which, but I had them tied together). I get a picture now, but without the remote board I guess it's really bad to have it turned on, so it's off just waiting on that.

Silly question though. I am going to assume a majority of the monitors they have were used in newer games and via the VGA connection. I assume the issues that come up are problems that effect both CGA/EGA and VGA. I am just curious if some of these could have been tosses as not working just because something VGA related went out?

Just a thought, guess I will know once I get that remote board.

Haha, yeah. I would have felt really dumb. I had no idea a remote board would be required. Knowing is half the battle. Well in the case of monitors, it's probably 90 percent ;)

You should do preventive maintenance while you have it, I'v had to replace all the caps
in the vertical circuit even after, the first cap kit years ago. By that time the ic is done.

Bad Connection's are more with the interface /sync board all headers
and vga pin conections. check older thread's for known bad parts.

As for the remote board its real simple to make, nothing but 4 tact switch
and wires to the board.no other parts on the rb.

In my experience i have found nothing wrong with not having a remote
board, Just needed for adjusting.
Infact the RB tact switchs can cause problem's when leaky.

I like the chassis, its not all that bad.

OK, so the other 2 posters were wrong about the remote board?

So the fact that it just completely started freaking out and whines like crazy has nothing to do with no remote board?

I really want to make sure on this :).

9200s are really, really nice when they work, and since they're newer they tend to be more reliable. But as someone else commented, failures on them have a tendency to cascade -- when they fail, they EXPLODE. They also have 3-4x the components of any K-series chassis (the capkit is 90-something caps!) making them a royal pain in the ass to troubleshoot. Chad used to service them but doesn't anymore -- way too much work.

If you've got the dosh, Happ still services them. It WILL be expensive though.

Ok, thanks man.

Literally, it's a couple of buttons and a resistor. You could probably make your own. I can get pictures if you'd like.

Why wouldn't it work ? They work fine without the remote board.

You're thinking 9400s where they ditched that dumb two-wire design. 9200s are different -- see modessitt's third post back on page 1.
