does anyone 'not' like NTE brand components?

I need to pick up some parts and one of the local stores has 'NTE equivalents' for what I need. Is that OK?

I've seen their stuff used in a variety of commercial equipment (Some Siemens hardware I've done repairs on)as well as consumer gear. Pretty sure the transistors in the Xbox are NTE.

Never heard of any sort of quality issues regarding them, like you've heard with certain brands of electrolytic capacitors for instance.

I've used quite a few of their parts and haven't ran across any issues. I think a lot of their stuff is rebranded surplus though. I've bought transistors and IC's where you can see they are actually made by TI or other manufacturers.

Sometimes the price is a little high, but the parts are ok. I use them since that is what my local electronics parts jobber stocks. Most of the local tv repair shops use them.

I've used NTE MANY times over the years. They have a great cross-reference guide you can download for your computer, and an online one, too.

Most of the time if I can't find a component, they are the first ones that I turn to. Never had any problems with any of their components.

i've never had issues with them. i've used a few of their ic's, in both monitor chassis and pcbs, and they've always worked for me.

No problem with them except usually being way overpriced compared to another brand equivalent.

I've only used them once and was not crazy about the result. I needed a replacement for a transistor on my 19V2000 when I was fixing my Battlezone, I went to the local parts place here and they sold me a NTE284 Transistor as a cross reference for a 2N3716 Transistor for $12.00, the monitor worked, but the some of the lines would not connect. Lived with it until I discovered Bob Roberts an actual 2N3716 Transistor for $2.00. Perfect!

I've heard like said above that some of their stuff is rebranded surplus. I've got to give them kudos though for at least even attempting to still 'manufacture' all the weird stuff.

Price from retail stores though guys? You're talking Radio Shack type prices...where a 50 cent battery sells for $7. You're talking ONE part...instead of 20 or 30.

Places like Digikey will sell you 1 piece at their base price, but you'll get nailed on S&H to make up the difference. That's why they have flat rates.

No... worse! Radio Shack has 2N3055s for $2.29 http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062614 ... the NTE cross (the only 2N3055 that Mouser sells) is $4.06: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/NTE/NTE130/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsagl7BRmp5TRbi3B9/YpOoVPCTgPbwM4Q= .

Unfortunately, I've never been to a B&M store that's sold large amounts of components... I would pay those prices to get them now, but if the Mouser price is 2x Radio Shack, the B&M price is probably more than that.

I don't deal with Mouser, they rarely have anything I need. That said, Digikey has a 2N3055 from ST for $1.82. ;)

especially if you get them at a hole in the wall mom and pop shop like i do, where they tend to make up rather magical prices.

Exactly... a non-NTE part for less than 1/2 NTE price (most stuff that Digikey and Mouser both sell are very similarly priced). I don't think Digikey sells NTE, probably because they know nobody would buy it unless they didn't have their other alternatives, which they do have.

And yeah... I almost always order from Digikey because First Class mail on most things is $2.41, and it gets here from MN faster than UPS from anywhere. There are occasions that Digikey doesn't have what I need though.
