If it's not already available, someone should invent a mod for Missile Command to keep all the stages with a black background. This would eliminate the need for tube swaps, by hiding the burn-in. If this is available anywhere, please let me know!

IIRC, that whole "background colour change" thing was to simulate the attack over the course of a day.

But yeah, a couple of those can be REAL annoying. Good luck finding it.

There is a circuit that will shutdown monitor on idle games. It was sometime ago. Thought about making a few of them but never got a chance to. Used a timer, relay and switch sensor. Very simple circuit and easy to build. Just can't seem to find it now. Think "simple circuit" was in title of thread.

I believe it was a jeri ellsworth design

Edit

Never found the post but I think this is the video

Wait I don't understand why would the color background changes mess up the monitor? I'd think the problem would be normal burn in from stuff that does not change like the bottom and the scores at the top? What am I missing?

Also interesting monitor turn off circuit. I never though of having an inactivity timer/relay to turn off monitors but if certainly like that on my vector games... Well all games actually

The color changes don't mess up the monitor further, they just reveal a TON of text (and arrow) burn.
