does anyone know "gene-vintagearcade" on eBay?

Isn't that guy who runs Vintage Arcade Superstore in California? If so, he's crap at replying to emails. And I've never seen him around here, but that doesn't mean anything.

Is this guy a KLOVer by chance, anyone know?

Dude, did you just join yesterday? By your post count, I would say no, but wow. Gene has been talked about, ridiculed, price-policed and post-raped on KLOV since I joined. He sells arcade dreams to the stars.

Wait, isn't that Betsons? "the store of the stars" (East Coast joke)

Nah, I never saw anything about him actually. I'm too busy posting pics of girls of questionable ages here to be tracking the reputations of individual KLOVers :D

Bought two machines from him. High prices, and he doesn't always respond very quickly. The games, however (Punch-Out!!, Donkey Kong) were top notch. Restored w/tastefully-done reconditioning on the inside and outside. If he had a machine that was a *must have* for me, I wouldn't hesitate doing business with him again.

My 2c.

His prices are retail because its his business. I've purchased a few willis overlays from him and they arrived safely.

Gene send game at no problems. why you not say respond to email so now quick? I can have paid in short time. I can send email Gene me in short time with not problems.

(Man, my Chinese broken English is really rusty...)

he has some boards i'm interested in, i've made 2 separate offers and haven't heard back. I even tried a different deodorant and still nothing.

Call him. I haven't checked, but his phone number used to be listed right on his web site. Even if it's not, it shouldn't be too hard to find. I never had much luck emailing him, but when I called him, he answered every time and we talked out our deal without a problem.

I'd either be patient, call him, or try to find the boards elsewhere. I could be wrong, but I'd bet that a retailer could give a rats ass about a (less than full price) offer on 2 boards this close to Christmas...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

I sold him a game once, took his check and it cleared. I'd do business with him again.

I live about 10-15 minutes from his "Superstore".

He has less space than he used to. Nowadays he's just in the one warehouse, which is still pretty big. He's got a lot of games. Quite a few of them are rented out to different organizations and events, so he's got income from things other than sales and repair.

If you need me to go over there and try to get those boards, let me know.

He's not a bad guy, he shows up to many of the LA area auctions. He usually just buys cheap stuff, mostly $100 or less. He bought some games at the auction last weekend, gutted them, and is "giving away" the empty cabinets on Craigslist.

His prices are high but he's got a ton of overhead and several employees to pay. He lives in a small apartment and is not getting rich doing this.

Two of the games I own actually came from Gene via our own XXI21, I have had zero problems with either and both are quite nice.

Gene is a really good guy. I met him when I picked up my eBay win from him about a year ago - a gutted and slightly broken Tempest cab. He felt bad I was driving from Phoenix to L.A. just to get one cab. While there, he showed me a few cabs and a cocktail, and I ended up picking a water-damaged Star Castle and some control panels, for cheap! Haven't had any delayed email problems with him, but then again, I went through eBay, so maybe he keeps a closer eye on those transactions?

He was good about following up with some spare parts for my Punch-Out!!, too.

Thanks guys for the info on Gene. I'll give him a little bit longer to respond re: the boards, and then I may take some of you up on your offers to reach out to him.

I just called and left him a message the other day and he called me back in a couple of hours. He is a really great guy. He helped me get my first game working and then I would go over there and he taught me how to repair games. I learned a lot from him.
Here are his numbers. (818) 246-2255 New toll free number (877) ARCADE-5

I've emailed him in the past on a few items and never heard back from him so I thought he wasn't very serious about his business and just found what I was looking for on here.
