I was able to get 6 of the 7 coins.. But the one I am missing is the red sauron coin.. they say tilt limited edition on the back. if anyone has one they want to sell, let me know.. If your looking I would be willing to trade to get the red coin. these are not small token size coins. more like USA JFK dollar size. I wonder if they items you get from their redemption center back then. I cant find anything about them.

I actually worked at tilt back in the 90s and I unboxed a brand new Primal Rage.

I do not recall these tokens. They are pretty cool.

I didn't even know such tokens existed.

Super! I learned something today. Time to go back to bed.

crap...

I was thinking maybe a redemption item, but if you worked there, and dont remember, thats not good. I will ask a friend of mine who was marketing at atari back then. maybe he will remember. Maybe they were given out at an amoa show and tilt paid for them to advertise on the back of the coin?

the only reference I can find to a red and silver one sold in the past I think on ebay (worthpoint saved the info).

We did not have these at the redemption counter for sure.

I don't know if this help. I had a Primal Rage when it came out in the showcase cabinet. Unboxed it myself. They didn't come with the game.
LTG : )

Any info helps. I did not think it would be a pack in with the game. I thought tied to tilt and probably a redemption item, but considering none are floating around, it had to really limited.

got a message back from derryl. primal was the first game he was marketing and he does not remember the coins. He says, since they say tilt on the back, no way atari would have given them out at a trade show. He was going to ask his former boss if they remember the coins.

So it sound more like something tilt did themselves.

I also worked for Nickles and Dimes (Tilt) back in the 90s and we did not have those coins. We did have coins worth points and they were very light and said 2 points or something similar on them. I may have one so I'll dig it out and take a pic.

I wish I would have kept thr complete sale price list we'd get every fall. I was fun to see all the cheap prices of the 80s equipment.

I remember going in and seeing what games they had for sale around x-mas. I bought a few games from them back in the day.

my buddy used his redemption tickets to by a atari skull and crossbones dedicated cab back in the day.

Here's a picture of the short lived "pog" token along with the coupon coin. Not sure why we had these back in the day. The coin feels aluminum and we had them in different colors too.

still bugs me I cant find any info on the tilt coins.. cant imagine it was an amoa thing. maybe an atari roadshow event? maybe tilt had them made when they showed the game if the roadshow went to their location?

But I was able to score this.. I had seen pics of the crate, did not know what was in it... Now I can park it next to my area 51 crate.. the are 51 one had a yellow barrel in it. I also have both sets of playing cards now.

little update.. the person selling the mug, worked at atari. He had all 7 of the tilt coins. I made an offer on the sauron, and got it. so I have the set now!!. they are local, so I am going to meet up to pick them up and I am going to ask if they know the history on them. But I dont think he knows.

I think they are going to list the other 6 on ebay soon. if they do, I will post the link. they have some other primal stuff listed. fanny pack, flyers, toys r us cards.

Nice! Out of curiosity how much did that one coin cost? What are the rest expected to be listed at? I have a primal rage this would be a neat item to have.

I offered $60 for sauron coin, and they said $55 was more than enough. I bought it off ebay. here is the link. I had offered to buy all 7 as initially they did not want to break up the set. but they decided to help me out to complete mine and offer the others up. I would think they will sell the others for less. maybe individually or all 6 together. I can ask. as soon as they decide, I will add a link, but if you follow their auctions, you will see them. she says she plans to list this evening.

they are very cool. about the size of kennedy silver dollar, but not as thick.

got a chance yesterday to meet with the guy who designed the pog primal rage tilt coins. unfortunately he could not answer more about them. he does not remember who told him to do the work, he was just told to do it and moved on to his next project. I know one of the marketing employees that was in charge of primal back in the day. He said he had nothing to do with them. So my next quest is to try to contact his former boss and see if that can yield more info. But it might be end of the road from the atari end.

I suspect tilt contacted atari and wanted to make them. atari marketing had him design them. he designed front and back of the coins. He gave me a copy of both artworks. maybe atari ordered some some samples for approval. Maybe they sold a few in the local tilt store, or maybe they decided to cancel the project. I think I remember they sold pogs in the redemption area at my local tilt. I dont think pogs had a long life back in the day and the fad may have been dead before they were finished.

On thing I have noticed, someone made coins very similar to the primal ones. I found this image of a blizzcon 2007 coin that looks like it might have been made by the same company.

Thanks for the update that's a lot of info even if you didn't get the answers you were looking for. So you think these never made it to mass production?

I dont think so, but they may have and ended up in the trash as an item tilt could not unload.

the only ones that seem to have them are people who worked in the primal rage area and were able to grab them. The only other coin was sold on ebay a while ago and comes up on the worthpoint data site. but I think you need to subscribe to see who listed it.

the two guys who responded that they worked at tilt never saw them. If they were at all tilts there would be more around. But now that they were known to be pogs, that a whole new world to search.. but since I have my 7, I don't need to worry too much about finding more.

I did also pick up these playmates cards. I forgot to ask about them to see if he had a hand in making them. Its a complete set. also a pic of the primal rage maquettes was included. He made them and asked about them. my buddy has them. in his collection.

did learn this from the listing "Included is a 3.5"x5" picture of the original 5 Primal Rage puppets taken from the stop-motion capture table. Sidenote: There are 5 characters in the picture because the Blizzard model was used for Chaos, and the Diablo model was used for Sauron; both were digitally color-swapped in production".
