Does anyone get irritated when told to package the item well?

A million times yes on the backing. Mailman always folds shit packed flat or in an envelope. Including the NOS Defender overlay and 2x NOS red tent overlays I bought here that came packed between a folded piece of cardboard. Thanks to those 2 guys btw.

It's good to know that OP is too cool and busy to care about his buyers' concerns and stuff though. Obviously that is the impression I'm left with. Was I supposed to glean some other nugget of a life lesson from someone crying about fielding emails? :/

I am certainly not that cool, I can assure you of that. I spend a lot of time properly packing and have had one damage claim over hundreds of transactions, including members here. It's my pet peeve I know. The problem is that EVERYONE now does it. In a given day, I will have over ten messages telling me to pack shit carefully. I get it. But I'd rather spend my time packing your product carefully instead of answering the damn emails. That's just me I know, but I didn't think I would need to assuage so many fears.

It's funny though, because many who want their stuff packed nicely also want it as cheap as possible. Shipping ain't cheap these days. I get why some sellers skimp on packing. It's not cheap either. It can be a fine balance to pack well and try to make a few bucks while constantly getting tire kicked and low balled on what you want to sell.

This is still the worst packaging job I've ever seen shipped to me -

Amazingly the board was fine. It was an eBay purchase a few years ago (can't remember from who) and when I brought it up here it was the usual, "Ah, that's a great guy, I've bought from him tons of times!" circle jerk everyone bullshit. Guess I should be glad he didn't pack the box with toilet paper he wiped his ass with.

When I sell stuff on eBay I make it clear up front how things are going to be packed, ie "this will ship in a BOX with full tracking and insurance." Then as I pack, I shoot a couple pictures quickly as things are being wrapped up.

Thankfully the shipper took the Redbull cans out before packing the pcb for you.

My pet peeve for sure, is when eBay buyers send me messages to tell me to make sure their item is packed well. Like I was just gonna throw it in a box unless you said otherwise? I hate that I read the damn message thinking it might be something important. Argh!

You ever buy something yourself.. and the guy you bought it from just stuck it
in a flimsy thin box.. and when you got it there were holes through the side of the box
and the item was damaged.. if you did , remember how that felt?
If it has,, then you understand what some of your buyers are feeling because somebody else might have done
that to them. So i think thats why they ask.. and really i dont blame them because that
feeling sucks.

Once they buy from you and see you are legit.. it pays off in the long run.
they keep buying or word of mouth you to other customers.
They wont question your packing method again.

Why would it bother me? Because it defies common sense. If I wasn't going to package it decently to begin with, a message sure as hell ain't going to change what I do. You are either going to get someone who takes time to ship it right, or you aren't. No message will change it.

I guess the other irritating part is making the assumption that it is the ONLY thing I am doing that day. I ship 20-50 items a day, 100% feedback with 1000s of positive feedback. How much more assurance do you need?

Holy shit dude you sell that much?
Can i see some of your items lol.. link?
Im always looking for a few items.
I promise i wont bother you about the packing lol.

Also somebody mentioned item specify shipping..

IF it was something fragile like a midway board , or something hard to find
like a fully rebuilt tron boardset . I would shoot a msg asking how they box it.
I would never use the post offices boxes to ship a midway board .
One good flex to that board and bye bye.

Yeah it's annoying as hell... but on the other hand after you receive stuff that literally is just thrown in a box, people feel like they have to specify. I usually let it slide if they say that because they've probably had some really bad experiences...

Having received at least three different boards overtime that were crammed into a USPS flat rate box and delivered broken, I have been guilty of messaging a seller or two and asking for confirmation that the item be packed appropriately.

I guess for me it's piece of mind vs. not saying something and wishing I had... although I have also had well packaged material get destroyed so am I really affecting the outcome? Probably not, but it makes me feel better when the seller responds and confirms. Especially when it is an item not easily replaced. Filing a claim and getting money back is easy ... finding the part again is not always possible.

I once bought a replacement EPROM on eBay... dude stuck it in an envelope and dropped it in the mailbox. It's a miracle it still worked after I spent a bunch of time straightening the legs.

There was a hobby parts guy I ordered some LEDs from awhile back. I ordered three colors, 20 pieces each. He tossed the bags in a regular paper envelope and sent it off. Obviously it got torn open in sorting, lost most of the parts along the way, and LEDs were everywhere around my mailbox. Inside were individual portioned foil bags that withstood being shredded, but they weren't sealed so the LEDs poured out anyway - except for a sample bag of other colors that was taped shut.

So I tell the guy what was up, tell him it got shredded in sorting and list what was missing. He says no big deal, and sends the lost parts out immediately. Three days later I go to the mail box and it's the same story - shredded standard envelope with a bunch missing - YET AGAIN there are individual portioned foil bags and YET AGAIN they are open on one end. And.. YET AGAIN, there's a bag of samples that is taped shut properly and is complete.

At that point I said the hell with it and gave up doing business with him.

I once bought Magic the Gathering cards from a seller on ebay. They arrived in a regular white envelope. They looked like they have been wadded up. I am not vague when asking the seller to pack it well. If I am getting cards I ask to have them put into a card sleeve and then put between two hard plastic card holders. If I am getting something bigger I will give different instructions.
