I'm looking for a price check for a Space War. I haven't seen one for sale in quite a while and I'm curious to know how much they'd go for these days.

Thanks.

I know of one near you in Northern Illinois. It is the Vectorbeam version. I do not have the dude's contact info anymore, but I bought my Satan's Hollow from him.

weird....

cnlmoore has one, lives in northern IL, seeing his made me wonder about them....

and i saw his a month ago when *I* bought Satan's Hollow from him!!

crazy.

About 3 years ago there was an auction at Birmingham Vending. Charles Alexander got a pretty nice and working one there for around $100 or so. My 5 X 12 trailer was already going to be packed and unfortunately I wasn't really interested in it.

He put it on Ebay with a minumum bid of like $2400. I thought what an idiot as it didn't sell and he was paying a pretty nice fee for that price.

He relisted it the next week with a min. bid of $2000. A guy from Mississippi bid on it. I ended up talking to the buyer a while later and he said that he had been looking for one for a long time.

Just goes to show you never know.

The one I know of is in a gated community in Poplar Grove, IL. There is also a Missile Command Cockpit and a Stargate there. Dude moved to Utah?Nevada?Colorado? and left them (and my Satan's Hollow) in his sister's garage.

Huh? You bought a Satan's Hollow from the guy, he moved and you lost contact and gave up? I work very close to Poplar Grove. If you want me to follow up (I admit, to get a lead on the other games) to try to help get you the Satan's Hollow, if you can get any info, I'll be glad to help.

No Joe, he had all those games 'stored' in his sister's garage. (sitting around amongst cats and filth). I drove the 380 miles there, picked up my Satan's Hollow that I won from him on Ebay, saw all the other games in the garage that I mentioned and called him to inquire about them. He said, "yeah, I wanna sell them too eventually, but just not yet, and I know they are worth some pretty good money." I said call me, he never did. Chris25810 had his number, but lost/threw it away. The gated community was pretty run down and out in the country, outside of town. That's all the info I have.

A collector in Philly has a nice working Space Wars for sale for probably $850 or thereabouts. If you have interest, send a PM and I'll put you in touch.

eBay BIN/BO $800 -- Local $450 -- KLOV buyer $125

I own a Vectorbeam Space War that was NIB until late last year. It is in mint condition and works perfectly. I searched for one relentlessly in any condition for the past 6 years but had no luck. I almost managed to buy beat up parts sets and a few severely neglected machines but I kept losing out to distance and other competitive buyers.

When this one came up, my luck changed. I tried to keep it hush hush right from the start because I didn't want to lose it to someone else. I managed to snag it for $2100 and was very excited and happy about it. Six months after I bought it, I was offered $5500 for it but I turned it down because I cherish this machine above all the others in my collection.

It may sound crazy to some people, but this game is one that is highly prized among collectors. They appear for sale very rarely but when they do, they can cost a lot. Maybe not as much as Computer Space, but it's getting there. Let's be real here though. A waterlogged rusted piece of junk without sideart obviously won't cost as much as a NIB mint condition specimen, but even a rotted junkpile can be restored to very repectable condition if someone is willing to put in the time and effort. CnlMoore is a perfect example. He did a great job on his. Actually, his machine was one of the ones that I offered $800 for and lost. I had been posting from time to time on different forums a standing offer of $1000 for any VectorBeam Space War in any condition for 4 years and never got one.

Thanks for the link, it was a good read. Any more updates coming soon?

Thanks, glad you liked it. The machine has been working flawlessly since the last update so there has been nothing to report.

Something that I find interesting is that most people who visit my place are immediately attracted to the two pinball machines and show little or no interest in the 14 video games. I always like to point out the Space War due to its rarity and historical value but most people are simply not interested in it. My son and I play it regularly and we both consider it quality father-son time.

I continue to look for a CABARET Space Wars---they apparently exist as one was spotted at the California Extreme show a number of years ago....help me find one for my collection! Todd from TNT Amusements [email protected]

I've done a ton of reading about this game over the years and I've never heard of a caberet version ever being released. I know that there was a cocktail prototype table custom built but it was a one-off despite how nice it looked in the pictures. When you consider the large number of buttons required for the game and the typical width of the standard control panel, it's hard to imagine it ever being made small enough for a caberet version that could still accomodate two players, and the game simply cannot be played single-player at all. It is entirely possible that the caberet version shown at the show was a homemade unit. I've never seen any parts for sale or even any pictures of such parts that would fit a caberet version. If I ever see one, I'll eat my words gladly but I really don't think there ever was such a thing.

However, I did see on eBay about 2 years ago where a guy had taken the boards and monitor from a full size Cine SW and installed the hardware into a homemade bar-top cab. It was as wide as the original game but only barely taller than the monitor itself. It was certainly a whole lot lighter and easier to move around than the full original cab was. I believe that his homemade contraption sold for $550. It worked fine.

This was a bonifide original...with unique cabinet graphics and monitor plexi...the cabaret was not a mini...but clearly MUCH smaller in height and width to the full size...I am willing to guess it was at least 5 years ago it was at that Extreme show...I saw the pix on line and was astonished! It could have been one of those one of a kind or one of five made (like Baby Pacman, Playchoice Ten, Space Demon, etc) that are still out there---but so few now!! Todd

Space War(s) was one of my all-time favorites as a kid as well. Golf-n-Stuff. I must have dumped $100 into that that machine - as a kid, with only 1980ish kid money... It was fun to play an Asteroids-y type game against someone else! Back then there were not a lot of 2 people playing-at-the-same-time type games... At least not at GnS.

Ginourmous machine, though. Kind of a bummer.

Any more recent info on anyone thinking about selling a space war?

i saw that ebay auction that ended at $308...
