Does anyone else here do this, or am I just weird?

I know my gameroom is no where as nice as some peoples here, and not everyone would like my game selection. But I catch myself more recently just going downstairs to the gameroom and just looking around. Not even playing anything, just looking at the collection. Sometimes I even cut the games on just to look at them all on. I know if my wife caught me doing it, I would just get alot of weird looks.

I still need to do some painting and new carpet at one point, but I have everything spaced out where you can see art and looks nice (to me at least)

We had our babyshower at the house yesterday. I got stuck babysitting and had all the kids in the basement. it was fun watching them all run around and play games. They mainly wanted to play the crane machine the most.

Pics are worth 1000 words... ;)

I will get some pics. Not a whole lot to look at for everyone else. But its nice to go down there to look at all the games with them on and the lights off. Especially the pinballs.

My dad stopped by yesterday. He loves the Elvira pin. He said he had to go back upstairs before he stayed down there for hours playing it.

Every day I go down just to "look" at my collection. Sometimes with them on, other times with them off. It just feels good to be among the games.

One word... nostalgia.

Defintely that. Plus I have a lot of the games I kind of want, even if they are not what everyone else likes. I use to worry about getting the classics or other games that were suppose to be popular. And they didnt get played much. Now I buy games I want (and for our son).

I don't think that's weird. A row a lit machines looks cool.

Look at it this way--lots of people collect things you can ONLY look at. I know guys with sports memorabilia collections, antique model trains (in glass cases), paintings, action figures, etc. For the most part, they keep this stuff around so they can look at it.

You need to pump in some artificial sound as well as a playlist of some early 80's songs!

You could top it off by blowing cigerette smoke throughout the room and adding a change machine just to hear the machine run and the coins dropping into the bowl!

Music downstairs is not a problem. I have a DJ setup downstairs and I have alot of music so I will play it sometimes. When I had my jukebox downstairs, I filled it with 80s rock and 70s R&B. It was awesome, Might get the jukebox back, but havent decided yet since I do have the DJ setup

The basement is not all a gameoom. I have the DJ system, my 65 gallon aquarium, old big screen with my old consoles hooked up. Also got alot of my old toys on display (he-man w/ the castles, transformes, gi joe, mask). My wife doesnt mess with the basement at all so I do what I want with it.

Not strange at all in my opinion. I love looking at the games on or off... just makes me happy. My son has caught me doing it a few times and he's tried his best to stand there with me... but he just doesn't "get" it... yet. Maybe someday after he's older and Dad's gone will he get a few games and then understand what the hell I was doing there standing in the middle of the room just looking around at unpowered games. :)

On a related note, we had my son's 9th birthday party at the house yesterday and the arcade was hopping for about the first 45 minutes to an hour. The goofballs were joking around, being wise asses to each other, and having a great time. Track and Field was getting hammered to the point of sounding like a thunderstorm was passing by! ;) I took a pictures and a video because the only thing I can see that is better than sitting there in front of the games looking at them is seeing them being played by a bunch of happy kids. :D

I find myself doing it more as I get more games that I really like. I actually really like looking at the Outrun and Hang-On. They just look "right" sitting out there. I don't actually play them much though, so their future here is uncertain.

Once the Offroad and Spy Hunter are finished, the middle of my garage will be where I will be looking. Offroad, Super Sprint, and Spy Hunter sitting in a cluster together is a pretty damn cool sight.

I don't look at my DK except to play it. It is a misfit with black T-Molding and needs to be restored soon.

yup,

I go downstairs and just "wander" around and look at the games. I do it quite a bit actually and I think my wife has caught on...but she supports the hobby so I'm pretty lucky.

Strange....for some reason almost every day I find an excuse to go down and see the games. Just to see them...not even to turn them on. We have a back up fridge in the basement....my wife used to always bug me to bring up water/pop/etc.......I don't think in 6 months she has said peep because I always find an excuse to be down there and come up with my hands full. I just really enjoy walking through the arcade.

You are not alone....;)

Funny,
I just did. I was out in the garage - getting things sorted and whatnot, and after I was done, I stood back and just admired the games - for a while at least. Some on, some off. Like it was stated before, nostailiga. It takes you back to a simpler time (somone insert obligitory "I wanna go back" video here).
Nothing wrong with it. I restored cars for the last 20 years, and would do the same thing - throughout various stages. Either fantasizing how it will look, or admiring how it turned out. Nice thing is Im not afraid to let anyone touch the restored games - unlike the cars that is. :D

I did a thread on this a while back. I defnitely do this. Alot. Everytime I come down to the laundry room, I dont end up doing laundry. Its like they call me. They keep calling me...

My garage is hot as fuck right now, so they wont be getting looked at for a while.
